okay this may sound stupid, I've never used eyeliner (pencil) before so please could someone give me a clear step by step guide as I'm confused as to whether it should be worn on the water line of the bottom eyelashes (so the bit above the eyelashes) or below them? oo and any tips would be useful.

You're meant to put it on the bit you call the water line (above eyelashes) You can do it on the eyelid too, just above your eyelashes, do a very thin line there.

You can wear it where you like. Your best bet is to experiment and see what works and what doesn't - it's different for everyone. I personally wear liquid eyeliner on top lash line and pencil on the waterline.

You can do it on the inside of the bottom lashes or under the outside lashes for a more smokey look.
I sort of swap between the two really.

Putting it on the inside of the eye, above bottom lashes can make your eyes look smaller. Unless its an evening look where eyeliner is also underneath the bottom eyelashes and on the eyelid, I tend not to do it. If anything, I use white eyeliner on the inside of the bottom lashes to make my eyes look bigger, then black smudged slightly underneath.
Use pencil to start with; liquid liner is more tricky and requires a very stable hand!
