Re: A2 war poetry meanings
I'd say stark realism is when the author presents the reality of war in all its brutal and shocking detail; they write about the truth of war and describe things as they really are. Romaticised descriptions are used by pro-war/patriotic authors such as Rupert Brooke. They basically use euphemisms to cover up the bleak reality of war, for example Brooke describes blood as 'the red sweet wine of youth' and describes death as sleeping. The idea of eternal life for the dead soldiers is also a recurrent theme in romanticised/idealised war poetry as it makes the death easier for those at home to accept; death seems les futile. Hope this helps/makes sense!
