If there was a male contraceptive pill/implant, would you use it?
For questions on everything from periods and STIs to the pill and the coil. If you are having a sexual health problem ask your question here. This forum is not for discussing your favourite sex position or what vibrator you should buy. Sex tips are not allowed
Now, tell me... if this existed and there weren't any nasty side-effects, would it be something you'd think about using? I certainly would; it would mean that I could decide that I didn't want to be a father at this stage in my life, and not have to worry about it.

Well, I don't know. According to Google, you need a regular-ish testosterone injection to counteract [some of] the effects of implanting/ingesting female hormones... what if you forgot to take the injection? *gulp*
Also, apparently it causes a slight weight gain, which is the kind of contraceptive I don't like!

The only troublesome side effect identified so far is that men put on a little weight while using it.
In addition to the implant, a man will need to have injections of testosterone hormone every four to six weeks to maintain his male characteristics.
hmm sounds fun so it turns you into a increasingly overweight female wouldn;t that remove ur sex drive or something which I guess does reduce the chance of pregnancy but not really in the way u want

Can girls answer this? As a girl I couldn't solely rely on it, however much I trusted him - I'd have to take a pill as well. So then it would defeat the object of the guy being on it really. I think a lot of girls will feel the same way.

Why would they? They have no reason to need it - it's not like they can get pregnant, they can just leg it if it happened! If however, men had to give birth they'd be rushing to get it.

why bother? When you can make the woman take it and be the one to suffer bad effects

Leg it? And have the Child Support Agency knocking on my door?
Re: If there was a male contraceptive pill/implant, would you use it?
As a girl it would be good as a double contraceptive method, but I don't think it should be used as the sole method of contraception - at least until it has been guaranteed of success (without said nasty side effects).

i wonder how they test the effectiveness of it? i mean how would they get volunteers to test whether or not it makes them pregnant? maybe they try it on married couples who don't mind if the woman gets pregnant and dont mind if she doesn;t...?
