    What is necessity?
I was just reading about someone's interview at Oxford and they said that they were asked "What is necessity?". Is this a legal term or is it simply asking for a definition of the word? They were also asked "Are there any times when a defence of necessity would not be appropriate?" Can anyone think of a good answer to that?

I've never come accross the word as a legal term but considering the second question they were asked I guess it must be. I must have nodded off during that lecture.

Well necessity as a legal term would be a form of duress... but I'm sure that's not what they were asking about as they clearly say no legal knowledge is required.
