Maths Question !!! HELP! TRIANGLES...

i know its silly but how do u know which sides are opposite n alternate..
obv i no the hypotenuse but i cant work out which is which and i get mixed up. therefore losing out on marks....

Also when u have 2 lengths of a triangle n u have 2 work out the length of the other triangle..how do u know whether u have 2 take away or add??
say u do 32 squared then 21 squared. do u take away or add. then square root it.
how do u know?!??!

thanks x x xx x x

Right, the opposite is the one opposite the angle you have
And the adjacent is the one next to the angle you have.

So it depends which angles you have.

And the other thing, thats pythagorus' theorum. A squared plus B squared = C squared. So the two squared sides add up to the square of the hypotenuse.

the opposite is the side opposite the angle you are using
and the adj/alternate is the one next to/attached to the angle

Hope that makes sense.
if u know the hypotenuse then you would have to subtaract the hypotenuse squared minus the other side squared, well u know its opposite because it is opposite the angle you are using therefore the adjacent will b perfectly visible because u said u know the hypotenuse. hope that helps...
