Hey,

Simple question is AS-Level Mathematics hard? At the college am going to they ask at least a "B" grade in Mathematics but am aiming for "A/A*" so would I find it easier than a "B" grade student there tends to be a higher ratio of "B" grade stundents because many A/A* students goto do Further Mathematics.

Ive had a very keen interest in Mathematics and found Mathematics very enjoyable because it is using all my brain power and logic.

How is it at AS-Level? Easy,Hard or in the Middle?

At the college am going to they do Core 1, Core 2 and one module from either Decision,Stats or Mechanics depending on what other AS-Levels you choose.

Feel free to post anything you like about AS-Level Math below, I would like to get a solid feeling of how it is like and differs from GCSE.

Well, if GCSE Mathematics is using all of your brain power and logic, I imagine you would find AS level mathematics incredibly difficult.

Seriously though, with a B/A/A* grade at GCSE you shouldn't find A level maths particularly taxing.

most who get an A in AS maths get an A*/high A at gcse!
i wouldnt call it hard but its a big step up from gcse!

AS level Math is easy.

C1 is mainly GCSE + differentiation.
C2 just develops on that.
M1/S1 aren't comparitively difficult either, just a question of practise with papers.

AS is pretty easy. It starts to get slightly harder at A2 though.

apparantly D1 is really easy, thats what all the AS people at my college do

tis a joke.

they need to revamp the sylabus so that core 1 has no GCSE work in it. that way it can all be build up so you get to do more new maths at A level.

I would say AS maths is easy, but then again maths is my strongest subject. Neverthless, i have many quite a few friends who are average/cleverish and they seem to cope with it quite well. It is a step up from GCSE maths, but to be fair, GCSE maths is a joke anyway, at least to those who are decent at the subject. A/A* at GCSE maths and you should be fine with AS.

I have two mates doing AS Maths, they both got A* in GCSE but are now doing different Maths courses which focuses on different areas of Maths, one of them is doing OK and the other is struggling and will drop it at the end of the year, so my advice would be to check the contents of the course

I got an A* at GCSE and I normally do well in class and in C1 in January, but I find I have to work reeeally hard to do well whereas at GCSE it came more naturally.
I think it depends on the sort of work ethic you have and what aspects of Maths you find easiest/most interesting. There is too much trigonometry and graphical stuff for my liking - I much prefer plain old algebra

Nah, I also find it incredibly hard I don't know why though. I got a high-ish A at Igcse level, but 59/100 in C1 and for C2 I dont think I would have got more than a D, got M1 this Friday, thats going to be even worse :o

i have M1 on monday ahhh ive done no work for it in 4 weeks! my teachers gonna have such a go at me if i dont get 90%!
i'll probably end up retaking in jan, but will be a breeze as we're starting M2 after exams

i got an A in gcse maths, and i found C1 really hard to begin with, but it got easier as i got into it, C2s not so bad, but i really cant do S1, but no one in my class can, so we all blame the teacher but i suppose thats not really fair!
I think that if you find maths enjoyable then you should go for it! that way if you dont understand something you'll work harder until you do! (well thats how i am with the subjects i enjoy)

I found AS maths quite easy. But maths is my strongest subject Only thing I had trouble on was C2 (probably due to not paying any attention on the teacher but talking instead) but even then with practice I improved quite a bit. A2 maths is hard though.
