Default Should people be paid to donate blood?

Recently there has been speculation that one way to increase blood donation would be to pay donaters a small amount each time they give blood.
Do you think that the NHS should pay donaters? Should donating stay as something done so you feel better about yourself? Do you think a cup of tea n a biscuit is enough to keep you happy after a blood giving session?

I dunno, seems like it would break the whole concept of it being a donation :/

I tried giving blood a little while ago, it turned out to be a disaster :P

Given the opportunity, i think a lot of people would give blood but many dont know how, where to do it. There should be more 'blood drives' etc. have them drop round colleges, unis, offices. Make it easier, probably wouldnt have to resort to paying people.
Although they do that with sperm in some places i think. Paying men to ****, what has the world come to (no pun intended)

yes and no really.
no because people should give it anyways if they want to, and shouldnt feel they should get paid for everything in life.

but yes because it would encourage more people to donate it, its a sad fact but lots of people wouldnt bother unless there was something for them in return and as it is desperately needed this is probably what the government see as the way forward.

is it true that if you are gay that you cant give blood because you are statistically more likely to have HIV/AIDS? several people have told me this.

i think if people are below the specified weight to give blood, they should just take a smaller amount, because i really want to give blood and will be 17 next month, but am way under the specified weight

we have blood drives at my college twice a year and loads of people sign up. That is definitely a good idea.

That's definetly true. I would, but I haven't got a clue how to go about doing it.

No, because that would encourage people who don't have enough money to donate blood more often than was healthy using fake ID etc. to get past any checks they had in place. I think the answer is to do research into the possibility to 'growing' blood from stem cells.

If you are gay, you cannot give blood. Also, if you have been with someone who is gay, and given em oral or had sex with them, you can't give blood.

definitely not, otherwise it would be called selling blood rather than donating blood, and it opens up other morally dubious issues such as should you be allowed to flog a kidney to the highest bidder to pay off your credit card debt? I mean if you're getting paid for your blood, what about other body parts.

"Donate Blood" if you misunderstand the term of donate, it means of giving willingly. Donations are like alms. You give without receiving. So no they should be paid unless the person who receives it wants to pay them.
