Hey everyone. I know i'll definetly have to go thru clearing as my exam performance was abysmal. Could anyone recommend any 'good' courses that will probably be avaiable thru clearing if any ??
PS: The course i wish to study is International Relations
Here's last year's list of participating Universities, so there's no reason you won't end up somewhere very good indeed. Obviously that's not IR specific, but it might be worth your while thinking now about what Universities you would be interested in and drawing up a longlist of say, 20, so that come results day you can be prepared to get on the phone straight away to your favourites.
That aside - if Aber's in clearing that would be a fantastic bet. Their department is amazing and often undersubscribed because it's somewhere no-one's ever heard of. -
Re: Political science and IR societyThanks. I'm very much aware of Aber, i declined their offer for Leeds which i perhaps shouldn't have... I would jump at the chance if they offer me a place. However, i fear my grades will be too low, most probably CCC. I hope i can find an IR place through clearing. The only requirments I have is not in London and it having a good course - interesting modules.(Original post by IlexAquifolium)

Cheaper life, better course and better reputation within IR circles. -
Re: Political science and IR societyWell at this stage there's not much you can do other than strategise and hope you've done better than expected. If you go through the universities that were in clearing last year, you should be able to see what their standard offers were for IR. You can then build a list by offer and prioritise which ones you like best for each grade range. That way you can be first out of the blocks on results day. Good luck!(Original post by TRUE_GOONERM)

Re: Political science and IR society
I want to study IR with German or Politics so far I have looked at these Uni's but am not sure which to choose so could you help me out?
University of Leeds
University of Reading
Aberystwyth Uni
Nottingham Trent
Oxford Brookes or Keele
I am really struggling to choose whether to apply to Keele or Brookes for various reasons
Oh and I am positive that I am going to apply at Leeds and Aberystwyth -

Leeds and Aberystwyth are polar opposites - so begin by asking yourself the question 'do you want to live in a big city or a remote town with 20,000~ people (more than half of whom are students)?'
Do you want to live by the sea?
Is the distance between home and university important?
For the subject itself, though, Aberystwyth's interpol department is better than Leeds, Reading, Trent, Brookes and Keele. -
Re: Political science and IR societyLocation is totally irrelevant to me although living in a nice place such as Aberystwyth would be great(Original post by Stalin)

I have read up on Aber a lot and they sure have a great reputation for their Politics department hence why I want to apply there. The thing that worries me about Aber though is graduate prospects
Leeds being a Russell group Uni is quite appealing and I have read that their politics department is also great. The thing is if I do IR with German I will do a year abroad so distance isn't a matter for me but I am facing a dilemna with Keele and Brookes because they are only one place away on the complete uni guide rankings however Keele's rep is better ... of course it isn't all about rankings but I still think it is better to keep reputation in mind. I only live 20 minutes away from Keele by car so I would probably live at home but I don't want to miss out on the Uni experience so I am not sure whether to apply to keele or to brookes :/

Re: Political science and IR societyThe first department of International Relations was founded in Aberystwyth - so if you're looking for a job specifically suited to IR look no further. But I wouldn't get caught up in jobs before you've even started your degree because a lot can and will happen in that three - or in your case four - year gap. For example, when I started my first year last summer I thought by the time I'd graduate I'd do something specifically suited to my degree - not anymore.(Original post by arnoob)

Isn't Keele's nightlife based in Stoke? Is so, I'd go brookes. Oxford > Stoke for nightlife. -
Re: Political science and IR societyExeter > RH > City > the other two.(Original post by Lukfisto)
hello everyone,
I'm thinking about these universities:
Exeter Uni
City university of London
Essex Uni
Goldsmiths Uni
Royal Holloway
Which one is the best? What do you think about City uni? I'm kinda looking at it, since personal reasons attract me to London. -
Re: Political science and IR societyYup, it was founded by Woodrow Wilson after World War 1 if I am correct(Original post by Stalin)

Interesting is that common among University student's I mean changing career ambitions? But then again 3-4 years is a long time as you have mentioned, to change career choices to more realistic, interesting targets and so on... I have no idea tbh not a really a party goer
With Uni experience I was referring more to living interdependently and so on, of course socialising is also a aspect

Re: Political science and IR societyreally? Royal Holloway? I always though that Exeter>essex>City>RH>goldsmith(Original post by Stalin)
Exeter > RH > City > the other two.
All rankings show that RH is not better than Essex or City. Any specific experience or story, why? -
Re: Political science and IR societyOverall uni rep would suggest RH is better than Essex. I don't know about their IR departments, though.(Original post by Lukfisto)

Re: Political science and IR society
Hi guys
I'm going into my second year at Leeds in September and have asked to be transferred from Politics to IR, which the uni has allowed. I've enjoyed my IR modules much more than the politics ones I did, hence asking to be transferred, but I'm worried a degree in IR doesn't sound as good as one in Politics, as some people (if my friends are anhything to go by) don't even know what IR actually is.
Any advice? Should I just go ahead and do IR?
