I don't think so. Though I've managed to scrounge department components for personal projects before...

on a completely different note - how useful is an electronics a level in a engineering degree.

im looking at either doing a general engineering degree then specialising after or doing a civil/mechanical degree.

I did electronic at gcse - found it an absolute dodle - (got full marks in every exam - only dropped marks on coursework). But i didnt end up taking it for a level as it clashed with further maths.

However i have done maths + as further maths - so only have 3A2s to do next year - thinking of doing electronic either full or as next year - is it worth it?

I never did electronics in school as they didn't offer it in Scotland. I'm doing Electrical Engineering at Southampton and share most modules with Electronic Engineers atm.

I found it more benefitial to have the extra qualification in further maths than I feel I would have found electronics. They covered everything A level electronics in about 3 lectures and it all seemed very basic.

I did electronics at GCSE and it was a doddle, I agree. Luckily at my college, there are two FM groups so was able to do it. It is just as easy at college. It must get hard at university.

I feel scrounging is a good idea but I need a PIC and I don't think I can do that

You can order free samples from the Microchip site, though shipping can take a while. Easier just to buy them IMO, they're cheap enough.
