I'm using some books about how to fill in the production log and structure my written report, would they go under references at the end even though they are not for research about the topic I am doing? Thanks 
Hey everyone! My EPQ is :Was Richard III a much maligned king? I'm stressing because I haven't done any research yet and really need some help on structuring my work. I have broken my topic into four main areas: his social, economic and foreign policies alongside his cultural influence but I don't really know what to do beyond that as my supervisor hasn't explained exactly what to do. Please help!

I'm considering doing an EPQ, but I am not really sure on the question topic. I have a vague idea, and I'm mainly interested in doing it in regards to sexuality - I thought of something along the lines of representation of asexuality in the media/in history, but perhaps there won't be enough for 5k words. Or it wouldn't lead to any project ideas, I mean like artefacts or whatever.
If anyone could suggest something that won't be too vague but not too specific that there won't be much on it, I'd much appreciate it.

Extra ucas points - might look good on league tables
They will get more funding if they offer it
Students get to do research and develop lots of skills and unis say it is good preparation for university.

how did you structure your essay? and what was it on?My EPQ was on dreaming and dream phenomena, and how that could affect our conscious actions.
So the first half of the year and the school holidays I mostly researched about my subject. So I went to the library, searched online, looked at videos and published books for some information. People also took interviews with professionals. I made logs of the websites covered and the date in which I accessed them.
The second half of the year I spent writing the essay. I planned the introduction and the contents, and wrote about 6000 words, making sure that my supervisor knows where I am exactly.
A lot of the marks are gained on project logs and the bibliography, so dont overlook those sections. I also made a table to suggest the reliability of sources and a Gantt Chart to show the timeline of my Essay.
I'm doing my EPQ on the Changing Representation of Women in Science Fiction and Fantasy Television.
Yay for long winded titles but I'm using it to chart 20 years of change in the representation of women, from pre-Buffy to Walking Dead and Game of Thrones.
I was going to do it on Video Games but with how the last four months ended up in gaming I decided to stay clear of that.

Guys I'm a bit confused and could use some help...
In the section of the proposal form which is to be completed by the supervisor there is a section entitled 'Format of Project'. The two options I am confused about are the 'extended report' and 'electronic format'. One of the examples in parenthesis in the latter section is 'PowerPoint Presentation' which I would like to use for my final presentation. Does this mean I am doing a 1000 word report or am I still doing a 5000 word report and ticking the 'extended report' box???

From what I can infer by the sounds of it you are doing the 5000 word essay and so tick 'extended report'. If in doubt why don't you double check with your supervisor?

I'm currently doing mine on gene therapy and its potential for treating cancer, but I'm a bit stuck on primary sources. My mentor keeps going on about having to have some, but I just can't figure out what I could use. Does anyone know how much it matters if you don't have any, especially for a topic that it'd be difficult to get it on?

Perhaps conducting an interviewer with a specialist? That was a fairly common use as a primary source amongst my group.

I did the EPQ last year and was fortunate enough to get an A*, I remember looking at this thread religiously especially near my deadline so I feel the need to give back! If you ever need any help with anything in your whole process don't hesitate in giving me a shout

Hi there.
If your mentor has a mark scheme, you should get it. It has all the information to get full marks on every section.
This is what I did:
1. Good and relevant title, you need this so your essay can constantly refer back to this, and your conclusion can answer this question.
2. Contents page for organisation
3. Introduction should be short, consice but informative.
4. Your essay should be logical and chronological. This means give an overview and elaborate on your title before answering the question.(Ie your introduction)
Lay out your subsections before answering anything.
5. References are key! Reference all your information and where you get this from. Try not use wikipedia. Your bibliography should have source information and date accessed. Remember to evaluate sources for reliability!
6. Your conclusion should summarise everything you have argued about, and give an overall answer to your title.
