What is 'extended project' and why have you opted to do it?

Sounds like more work for little benefit.

The Extended Project Qualification is 5000 words based on any topic that you desire. At the end, you have to deliver a presentation on this interest of yours to a group of people also undertaking the qualification.

It's quite a new qualification, which demonstrates your ability to do a university-style piece of writing. It has to be fully researched, and completely independently written.

I've visited Oxford, UCL, KCL and Birmingham so far for their open days. Each admissions tutor have said that they value the qualification, as it helps them differentiate between the candidates. However, they have all stated that it is not currently an entry requirement.

You will not be directly discriminated against for not having the qualification, but judging from what the admissions tutors have said, it will definitely strengthen your application.

Nah it's one of the free download ones that the users make. Took me a while to find though. Thanks

Hii
Im doing the extended project with the idea of combining history and economics together. Only thing is i have no idea what my question should be. I was thinking questions like "has communism ever existed" "to what extent was the emergence of the nazi party down to economic climate?".
However, im really interested in dictatorships, culture, totalitarianism, effects on society etc. Its more history based but it also has to include economics..and i'd like to focus on the 19th or 20th century.
Any ideas!?
Thanks!
The emergence of the nazi party being down to the economic climate would be a very easy question to answer, but not very original. What about something like has glasnost/perestroika created true capitalism in Russia compared to the Soviet Union's economy?

I'm doing the EPQ this year as well and Holly704's point is really important; specialise the subject. I did a proposal and research into a title to the effect of 'Society's interpretation of morals affecting law' and it got shot down in flames by my teacher in seconds. I decided to do the effects of the media upon the process of law if that gives any ideas? Piracy and Capital punishment are pretty controversial, easily enough to squeeze 5k words out of.
Hello,
I was thinking of doing the EPQ but it's currently not offered at my sixth form. However, I've been told that if I really want to do it, my sixth form will start the EPQ. I was wondering, how useful is this for universities before I start doing it? I'm going to be applying for a degree in biochem/biomedicine or something around that field, so thats what I would base my EPQ on; though I haven't chosen the specific subject matter for it yet.
Thanks!

You could maybe do something on how Hoover reacted to the Wall Street Crash, and what he did to try and bring the economy back up to scratch?
Hiya
I'm hoping to apply for history of art at university, so my ideas so far have been:

- art after trauma (e.g. the holocaust, artists such as frida kahlo)
- The rise and fall of the medici family in renaissance italy
- picasso: genius or lunatic?

if anyone has any ideas for an EPQ (AQA) to do with history of art please tell me

My project is just a 5000 word essay.

Just wanted to ask, does the 5000 words also include the bibliography and footnotes, or is it just the actual essay that needs to be 5000 words?

I don't think I will be that good at suggesting questions - I'm one of those people that always opts for the set questions instead of making one of your own up - but off the top of my head...

How far was the collapse of the soviet union due to economic factors?
Something on 'perestroika'?
Something on Chairman Mao's 'Great Leap Forward'?

I think the Nazi questions probably been covered a lot.
Something on Franco perhaps in Spain?

To what extent he can be seen to have destroyed the Spanish economy?

Hey,

I'm wanting to study vet science at uni, and am thinking of researching 'how selective breeding has altered modern farming methods' or possibly selective breeding in other domestic animals eg. dogs. Can anyone help me expand on this or give me any good suggestions for other topics to choose?

Thanks!
Hey,
I'm doing my extended project on key decisions made by the U.K government in the past 40 years.

I was just wondering if you guys could point me to a few of the decisions by authorities which are are most important in your opinion, and why.
Thanks, Tom
