Re: Ultimate EPQ threadNo idea - but you got a better A* than me if the "points" actually mean anything - I got 24. Nice one for you!(Original post by Sarah182)
I got an A* in my EPQ
I was wondering... the column next to the grade is 'Points', and mine says 26.. does anyone have any idea what that's out of?? -
Re: Ultimate EPQ threadI thought it was out of 50 as well! On the AQA website, the grade boundaries show the UMS as out of 50... they clearly don't know what they're talking about(Original post by teukiechul)
i thought it was out of 50, but who knows. i got 20 thoguh which was an A.
well done anyway!! -

i thought it was out of 50, but who knows. i got 20 thoguh which was an A.The points are only relevant for those doing it as part of the diploma.(Original post by Sarah182)

Re: can the extended project essay be a few words over?It isn't like they are going to count each word is it?(Original post by mizzangelic05)
My essay is supposed to be 5000 words long, but at the moment its 5015. is that ok?
They know roughly what 5000 words looks like - about 8-10 pages afaik - and that is their rule of thumb. -
Re: Ultimate EPQ threadAhh, no way! I've been fighting to keep it to 5,000...(Original post by Oliver Merry)
I just got my results back.... A* for my extended Project, don't worry about size, mine was about 8000 words, they obviously didn't care
Oh well, I think I've got it to about the right length at the moment.
By the way, I'm not sure if anybody's already asked this, but does the reference sheet (list of sources) count in the overall word count? I'd imagine it wouldn't, but I thought I'd check. -
Re: Ultimate EPQ thread
I'm starting the EPQ in September, although i'm still unsure as to what topic to pick!!!
My options so far, without edited titles:
1. The Victorian thoughts on death and the emergence of 'Memento Mori' photography.
2. To what extent was Henry VIII's reign influences by his mother?
3. What happened to the 'princes in the tower', impersonators or the true king?
4. I'd LOVE to do something about Henry VIII's wives but it's difficult to think of something that hasn't been overly done already. (?!)
Help! (If this is still the place to post
)
They seriously need to be edited, and I seriously need sleep :PLast edited by faenixamo; 22-08-2010 at 15:26. -
Re: Ultimate EPQ threadThat is not "mostly about physics". It firmly belongs to the realm of science fiction or imaginative writing.(Original post by lordromanov)
I'm doing an EPQ mostly about physics. the idea I have atm is something along the lines of 'is space colonization possible'. so whether its possible and why/if we should do it. is this idea too broad or should i focus it down to one aspect of it? -
Re: Ultimate EPQ threadSteven Hawking believes that the human race can only survive in the future if we colonise in space(Original post by Mr M)
That is not "mostly about physics". It firmly belongs to the realm of science fiction or imaginative writing.
You could talk about energy resources, whether life is possible, trying to rebuild the features and setting of the earth etc. -
Re: Ultimate EPQ threadNot necessarily. There is alot of stuff in there; Dyson spheres, getting around the radiation problem, interstellar travel, energy sources. There is alot in there... prehaps too much.(Original post by Mr M)

Re: Ultimate EPQ threadI submitted my Level 3 EPQ in November 2009, got the marks in January 2010 and my UMS score was out of 90. The raw marks are out of 50. From what I've read on here, it's a different UMS score if it's submitted as part of a diploma, but mine was a stand-alone AQA qualification, worth half an A2.(Original post by grcorbin)
I've just received my EPQ result. It read: 'A 23 points.' Does anyone know how many points this total is out of? I originally thought you got a mark out of 50!?
To complicate things further, in terms of UCAS tariff points they're worth the same as an AS-Level (but the A* is 70 points).
It's possible that different exam boards give you different scores on your statements as well. But I don't really know the answer to your question. Sorry

Re: Ultimate EPQ threadi was being unclear here. what i meant to say was that i intend it to be mostly about the physics parts of it, as thats what i want to take at university. should i then concentrate on one more focussed aspect of it then? and if so, which one?(Original post by Mr M)
