I feel your pain. It's getting to the point I'm getting some similar looking clothes as well now! I'd say, a nice patterned cute dress, like a tea dress (only if you like them), some good belts, and cardigans/jumpers.

A pair smart black trousers, and a black skirt (like a pencil skirt) are always useful for work or if you want to do temp jobs. I've been caught out in the past needing a skirt to work a wedding when i had to run out and buy a crappy one.
Along the same lines, a good fitting white shirt, and maybe a black one too.

Also, I always went for a LBD but also one in a bright colour too.
Black courts and black flats as they'll go with most things (unless you are decked out in white)

hmmm, I'm trying to build up a wardrobe of normal stuff but some high quality classics.
I'd say:
--lbd
--top quality bag: designer-designer or one from someplace like LK Bennett (if you're like me and can't afford that dream bag till you start earning good!)
--a really nice watch
--quality pair of jeans. 7 for all mankind look hot imo
--a good suit (for girls and guys)
--if it's you're thing, a *real* string of pearls
--classic trench
--classic winter coat
--hot designer sunnies

I shall think of more, I'm sure!

arrgh, I know exactly what you mean, I'm alwaaays buying things I don't really need and only wear them a few times before ending up hating them.
However, I would say staples include: a good pair of well fitting jeans, a selection of vest tops/camis in various colours, lots of coloured jumpers and cardis for throwing over things, polo shirts, a nice denim mini skirt (if you like skirts that is)...I always find them essential wear in summer with bright tees and flip flops, a couple of pairs of ballet pumps/heels in colours that go with pretty much everything e.g. metallics and a few good plain-ish belts that you can put with anything.

oh if you want to look classic, I suggest going for muted colours, smart bags (not too much bling), keep lengths to the knee and if it's a work skirt above the knee, wear stockings. look very well groomed. get some 'sophisticated' florals...none of those bright pink/pale blue florally tops you get in chavvy shops. No blingy accessories - that sort of thing.
