Re: Unit 6 Biology edexcel Synoptic
I wouldn't even dare to imagine that..i don't know much about those hormones!! They're so confusing!! LH stimulates either oestrogen/progesteron which in turn reduces the secretion of another hormone..messy stuff.
I'll probably choose 4B if that really comes up tomorrow.. -
Re: Unit 6 Biology edexcel Synoptic
1) Give an account using named examples of the role of enzymes in gene technology.
2) The role of water in the lives of organisms.
3)Human influences on the environment and there effects on biodiversity(think about deforestation, desertification, acid rain, water pollution, global warming v conservation strategies coppicing, reforestation, grazing, water levels)
Feasible suggestions? - if only number 3 would come up :P -

Re: Unit 6 Biology edexcel Synoptic
If 3) comes up I will cry. I know it vaguely but the whole thing is so wishy-washy!
For water, I'd say:
Brief description - dipole nature
Transport medium (as good solvent) - blood plasma for hormones/metabolic waste/respiratory gases etc; transport of water and mineral ions in xylem; transport of organic solutes in phloem; transportation of male gametes in human sexual reproduction (ie semen).
Habitat (as high specific heat capacity, density, surface tension) - aquatic environments more thermostable.
Hydrolysis reactions - using hydrolase enzymes in digestion.
Photosynthesis - photolysis of water to replace electrons lost in PSII and supply H+ for the reduction of NADP.
Respiration - metabolic water evolved as the oxygen acts as the final electron and hydrogen acceptor, used for camels.
Thermoregulation (due to high latent heat of vaporisation) - sweat; keeping plants cool in transpiration (transpiration also for pulling up water in the xylem).
Turgidity - guard cells. -
Re: Unit 6 Biology edexcel Synoptic
^^perfect set of revision for water!
id add the fact that plasma membranes, being surrounded by water, end up with their hydrophobic tails inwards and hydrophillic heads outwards.....essential in maintaining the selectively permeable membrane........

maybe thats what they want you to think
oooh, dont you just hate edexcellian mind games?Last edited by LordFSA; 17-06-2008 at 18:24. -
Re: Unit 6 Biology edexcel SynopticYe that sounds correct, they always have a plant essay for the 2nd chose for people doing biology and a human question for those doing human biology, thats only difference when you sit the paper.(Original post by desi_navi)
In the biology options for the essay questions theres always a question on plants or environment as thats the difference in between the biology and human biology aint it?..... (Question 4B)
