my first choice when applying to medicine is leicester uni. from another thread i have read that the itnerview process is relaxed and better than other places. im worried that my GCSE Grades are not good enough. i had gotten 2 A*,2 A and 6 B's. do you think these are good enough, i dont right now when i look at everyone else grades with laods of A stars. My A level grades seem to be ok, i have been predicted 3 A's and b(since ive strtaed working harder now)
ive got some work expiernece but not as much as others, but there is some other stuff aswell( too long to be written lol).
so do you think its easy to get in leicester than other unis? and do u think my gcse grades will give me a good chance if you include all other facotrs e.g a level grades, w/e etc?
Sorry for the long post, but i was kinda worrying. Thanks in advance.
Re: Is it hard to get into leicester for medicine ?
yes,but when you compare my gsce grades to a lot of other people, they dont seem very strong. but do u think my AS grades will make up for it and all the extra curricular activities? i REALLY want to go to leicester uni only, since my gcse grades ar enot good enough for most of the other unis.

Re: Is it hard to get into leicester for medicine ?
I got 1A*, 3A's, 5B's and 2C's and have got into leicester. There's about 1700 applicants I think and they interview about 1000; the odds for interviews are quite good. Be aware that they do reject over 500-600 after interview though!
Re: Is it hard to get into leicester for medicine ?
Thanks, that reassures me. when did you apply, is it for 2008 entry? Also, what were you predicited for your A level grades( which you wrote on your UCAS Application form)?
Re: Is it hard to get into leicester for medicine ?
Also, they interview 1000( according to you), but they actually accept something like 250 i think. so the interview stage is the most crucial in my opinion and i gather that from my own knowledge.
We require students to study 4 AS levels including Biology (or Human Biology) & Chemistry and to continue 3 of these subjects, including Chemistry, to A2 level. Our standard offer is based on performance at A2 level and is currently AAB with a grade A in Chemistry. We do not specify a minimum number of A*grades at GCSE. However, we may need to take GCSE performance into consideration when selecting candidates for interview as competition for our places is so intense. Applicants must have achieved at least a grade C in English Language, Mathematics and Double Science.
Hope that helps. And any questions about Leicester Uni, please feel free to visit the sub forum!

i did some research on leicester.. they interview 1300 and only take 160 .. (approx obviously) .. the GCSE requirements are low, you need a C grade in english lang, maths and sciences.. your A levels need to be AAB, with an A in chemistry, and general studies doesnt count..
realistically, its hard to get into any med school, but leicester does seem like a good'un.. if you knock you PS out the park, then you should be good for an interview, and who knows what from there..
make sure you do work exp. of course, just show that you really want it

Re: Is it hard to get into leicester for medicine ?
Leicester isn't harder to get into than other med schools!! People who feel that the interview will not be their strongest point should really avoid Leicester, this year you had to get 47/48 for an offer (I think)!! Just write a great p.s. and do make it personal to you!! Get a lot of reflecting on your experiences in there and you'll be ok!! And Gangsta Boogie, I was predicted 3A's, after the fun of the biology exams I'm pretty sure I'm not gonna get that!! Just hope I get AAB!! Good luck guys

Having a relaxed interview does not make it easier to get into!
e.g. HCA interviews, one was easy and they seemed to like me, the other was hard and I felt pushed and they hated me...I got offered the second one...
No, I don't think Leicester is particularly easy to get into.
But more importantly, have you even been to Leicester?? I applied there because it seemed okay in the prospectus and thought it might be easy to get into so would be an "insurance" choice...When I actually saw the city/med school on the day of interview I was less enthusiastic. (putting it mildly)
Yes, they interview about 60+ % of applicants (higher than many med schools)... but that means you have to do really, really well at interview to get in. So if you're good at interviews it may be an ''easier" option. Discard the A LEVEL, GCSE etc because everyone else already has those too!!
Re: Is it hard to get into leicester for medicine ?
i live in leicester, which is why i wanna go there lol, stay local.
Right,Alex D when did you apply? was it for 2008 entry? because your gcse grades are similar to mine and i want to see whether i have a good chance of getting in.

Re: Is it hard to get into leicester for medicine ?
Yeh I applied for 2008 entry!! Well your GCSE's are better than mine, I got ABBC at AS (admittedly the C in chem was down to the fact I was ill in the exam). I had a good p.s. with plenty of reflection!! How's Leicester for everyday living and shopping? I've only seen it on interview day but really liked the whole place
Re: Is it hard to get into leicester for medicine ?
Leicester is good. its slightly smaller than Nottingham but it is the same in terms of shopping and a lot less chavs. also, we're having a new extension to the main shopping centre with all new big name shops etc. Also, there are loads of indian food shops and Chinese shops if you like Indian food and the like, a treat!. I wanna stay in Leicester simply because its local and more convenient.
did you write your AS Grades of ABBC on your UCAS application form?, and they still took you in( not trying to degrade you, but i was kinda startled!). Because you're required to get a minimum of AAB, unless you're predicted grades said this.

Re: Is it hard to get into leicester for medicine ?
Sent a doctor's note to the uni's prior to sending my application in!! I was predicted an A in it though! Yeh I put everything down and still managed to get in, so it's highly possible! I'm predicted AAA at A2
