Re: McDonaldsI know of people who have done no work on shifts and have past... It is more if you don't turn up etc or have fights with everybody.(Original post by mikkyh)
Probation ?!
Yeah. So. I'm on my 3rd week of probation next week...so I'll find out if I passed or not.
How do I ensure I DO pass the probation period ? At the moment I've done about 5 SOCs and got 100% on all of them; I start work 5 mins early (arrive earlier than that); I don't have very much of the free food on breaks and I now get all the dressings and everything right. The only thing I do stuggle with is speed, though I have managed to "beat the meat" many times. Everyone keeps saying I'm doing fine but I'm still worried I will fail.
This is my first job whilst I study the BTEC National Diploma for IT Pracitioners (Level 3) at college...so it means a lot to me.
Any help ?! -
Re: McDonalds
I started work this weekend with an 8 hour and 4 hour shift and worked on drive through window 1 and then on the tills.
I really would like to work in the kitchen, any ideas when this may happen? I was told my the manager on shift (browny shirt not white) that I had taken to my jobs quickly...
thanks

Re: McDonaldsYou'll probably just have to keep bugging your store manager/whoever does the schedule to put you in kitchen. I've worked at mcdonalds for nearly 2 years now and ive had about 5 kitchen shifts in total.. so dont get your hopes up(Original post by fishkeeper)

that may just be our store though, they only put guys in kitchen and put all the girls on tills
Well done for taking to it well though
its a tough job sometimes!

Re: McDonalds
I'm looking for a bit of advice on working on the till and getting the orders ready
I find that with the really big orders I end up bagging food up and realising I need to wait on other parts because they have ran out - so I leave the bag of food in the bin whilst I'm waiting to keep the rest of the food hot.
However the manager kept complaining saying we can't leave bags of food in the bin and should only start getting the order ready when there is nothing to be waiting on
I don't understand this as if we wait then in the meantime the other food will disappear and as other tills take it and I will forever be waiting on food and never get the order to the customer
What am i supposed to do? -
Re: McDonaldsHaha I remember when I used to have this problem (not working there any more)..(Original post by Wooah)

Using bags in the bin made sure that nobody swiped it from your order.
Probably the best bet is to just go in super slow motion and just hover at the shoot for the particular item and grab it quickly. You don't get many orders done but you keep most people happy.
Little tip too, customers won't be TOO fussed if your working at normal pace, but if you start working your ass off then not only will customers start to see their arse when you slow down but the management too. So your best bet is just to get into a rhythm which is slowish, doesn't piss anyone off, and ensures you do your job well...
Keep your head down, and be a bit more stuck to the shoot so that you can be the first to take the food order. Fries was the ultimate bitch for me, I'd go up to fry boy and say 'i need 3 large' and he'd start doing them and then i'd go get the rest of the order, glance over and see some git take my fries!!! Once this happened and the customer had to wait full time TWICE for their fries. Bad times -
Re: McDonalds
I'm supposed to be training someone for the first time today. In kitchen... I think it's cause I said I'd be more confident training someone on front, so they're being cruel to me haha. The girl I'm training is nice enough though so hopefully I should do fine (: I'll probably end up rambling on about pointless crap or something though..

Re: McDonaldsAre you under 18? Im assuming you are, so when you turn 18 you'll get a pay rise. You also get a pay rise for each star you gain aswell, its 5p for each star, doesnt sound a lot but it all adds up in the end(Original post by Boom Boom Pow)
Do staff get pay rises after certain stages, or am I stuck on £4.25 forever? I like having something to look forward to.
. You'll also get performance reviews where you'll get pay rises, I think this is yearly. I got a 2.5% rise in my last review which worked out at something like 12p, so after you've been there a while you'll be earning quite a bit more
I started out on £4.35 and now I get £5.04.

Re: McDonaldsYou get a yearly performance review in September, and you'll get a pay rise of up to 4% based on how well you do in that. Even if you don't do well enough to get a pay rise (most people do), the company reviews pay yearly in line with the minimum wage rise.(Original post by Boom Boom Pow)

Re: McDonalds
I'm currently working at a Cafe, but I've been looking and applying for jobs elsewhere, because I'm not very happy working at the cafe.
I applied to McDonalds online a few days ago. I recieved an email today saying,
Well done – you have made it through to the next stage!
We’d like you to come for an On Job Evaluation (OJE) and an interview.
This will give you a chance to see what it’s really like at McDonald’s by working in a restaurant.
So I've been called in for an interview, and OJE? Can anyone who has been through this process, please explain to me what it will involve?Last edited by Tanya---; 24-10-2010 at 19:08. -
Re: McDonalds
Calling all McWorkers!

Who's had their restaurant refurbed?
Mine's due in the next month and I'm hoping they'll change the layout a bit since my store is pretty small and gets horribly cramped if there's more than 5 people in a queue.
So if yours has been redone...did much change apart from getting funky seats and snazzy walls?
-
Re: McDonaldsYup, it was a couple of years back though. The whole layout of the seating in the upstairs dining area was changed (we're a big store with seating for 200-ish), so we've got glass dividers and display cabinets, and different types of seating (couches, benches, bar stools etc etc). The downstairs dining area is pretty much the same, just with the newer style of seating, and the toilets were kept the same but done up as well. The crew room also got refurbed(Original post by Stacks)

And we got those fancy scrolling text light things, which are always a good timewaster when you're bored on lobby. We also have millions of spotlights now, which are a bit of a pain because they're always needing changed.

Hopes have been shot down! They'll probably keep the general layout thinking about it. I really don't think my branch is wide enough to get dividers or anything fancy.
Time shall tell though. Just wish my place would take the retail unit next to it and double the size
