Re: The McDonalds Thread
Did a 12-4 today... should have been on DA but my Asst Man asked me to go on tills during busy times. And, despite what it says on the schedule I didn't get a 15. Fair enough.
Had a customer who was brash with me about a shake not being full to the brim until I explained that it was perfectly on the line... Which makes me question whether people who ask for no ice realise they get the same amount of drink as those with ice?
Which brings me to another annoying thing. We've two drinks towers, one is Fruitzz, Coke, Coke, Coke, Fanta, Oasis, Sprite, Diet and DT has one with no Frutizz and two Diets. On the main tower (with the three cokes) the calibration is all wrong, so pressing 'Small' is nearly guaranteed to spill or overfill. Even when doing a medium it sometimes overflows!

Re: The McDonalds Threadtips on upselling? because i work in a place with alot of tourism i know some people give foreigners large evms anyway and another thing people do is instead of asking what size meal the want they just say 'is that a large meal?'(Original post by Tatpfun)
Do you ever look to see how much you make per hour at your till? It's pretty easy to bring up and we actually have till hour targets in my store that vary depending on how busy it is and whether your till is in the middle or at the end. On a busy few hours, (0200 - 0400 when the clubs all kick out, or 1200 - 1400) I can normally manage £180+ an hour, often reaching about £210.....£255 is my highest till hour unbacked, but that was LEVM after LEVM, quick and easy.
Another way to take more is to really upsell larger sizes. On a normal night shift I can get 97-98% large meals.....for example, last night 1 medium meal and 94 large meals sold at my till. -
Re: The McDonalds Thread
Drunks and foreigners get Large meals....if they ask if that's medium (non gap time only!!) you say yes and serve a medium. You can also say, "large?" after they give the order....or "it's only 40p more for more fries and more drink if you'd like".....Also two 20p dips equals a large upgrade on the old till system.
What you want to do is convince them very quickly and with the least possible pressure that a large meal does not make you a greedy pig and is better value. The happy meal has to be the best value meal though, 99p for a toy, 99p for a hamburger, 89p small drink and 89p fries....£2.29 for an order that should be £3.80 ish.
Basically, if you're fairly certain they don't know the prices and it isn't gap time then put it through as large.Last edited by Tatpfun; 15-07-2012 at 23:37. -
Re: The McDonalds ThreadThanks for the reply!!(Original post by Tatpfun)
Crew Members are the grunt force that makes McDonalds run. I spent 8 months on till or fries when we needed a fry person (never normally bother, DIY fries even when its a grand hour?!?) before ever even getting near the kitchen. Picked up how to make up chicken side stuff without being trained during that time, but normal grill side production....some people start there and never see till for months, some people start on till and never see anything else for months and some people start on DA (Dining Area) and then quit fairly promptly because everyone else doing the same job is being paid more with far more training (CCA - Customer Care Assistant). Although, I originally did 2 weeks (82 hours) unpaid work entirely on DA because I was so desperate for a job....with a Master's in Chemistry ffs!
Hope this helps.
Woah, damn,,sounds hectic..I don't even know what to expect anymore lol! I guess, i should just brace myself for anything, really.
Does anyone know if you can ask for a transfer to a different location during your OJE/interview? Like to transfer to a closer branch?
Thanks -
Re: The McDonalds ThreadHectic is good! I've worked minimum wage part time shop jobs before and the lack of activity was the worst part! At least at Mcdonalds (my 24/7 store at least) it is never empty and there is always a lot to do. The only quiet period we get is perhaps 4-5am when we can get front fully stocked, cleaned and dated.(Original post by rurounikenji)

Re: The McDonalds ThreadYou usually get put where they need you, get trained in one station and in you are generally left in that area. I'd say generally (in my store anyway) men are put in the kitchen and women are on front. Maybe one or two guys do front, but it's mostly female without a doubt. With kitchens there is one other girl who works grill and chicken but no other unless it's overnight.(Original post by rurounikenji)
Also this a question for those who already work at mcdonalds, can you choose what work you have to do as a crew member (like working in the kitchen or food prep etc) or do you always have to do a set work given to you? E.g. always working at tills..
I've worked there for a year (during holidays when I'm not at uni) and I've only been on grill side. I've asked to get till trained and been told I may get a chance for an overnight, just so I can put on a CV I am till trained if I want to go find a better job, but I imagine once I'm taught that'll be the only time I ever do it. -
Re: The McDonalds ThreadDepends, some stores will pay you, others won't. I didn't get paid for mine (but mine was 4 years ago now(Original post by Southall)
do i get paid for my orientation?
)
You could try asking before starting your first shift if you have a preference, but generally you'll get placed where they need you. Generally, girls get trained on front and guys in kitchen, but sometimes there's exceptions and you should get a chance to get trained up everywhere. If you're full time you should be fully trained in 8 months, and a year if you're part time.(Original post by rurounikenji)

How do you get so many? The most I've ever done is 70%, and that's with giving anyone who doesn't ask for a medium a large meal. Our store is really crap for large meals (35-40% usually) and that's with every crew member asking "is that large?" whenever someone orders a meal. I can only ever seem to sway people if we're got promotions like the coke glasses on.(Original post by Tatpfun)

Hi everyone,
I have just booked an interview & an on-job evaluation for Thursday. This is my first job interview -can anyone tell me what to expect or what they ask you to do? I'm really nervous already!
Don't be nervous, just go in (not in suit ect..) just wear smart casual wear (jeans, top/Skirt, top).
they just ask you a few questions about school, old jobs/work experience in school.
Just answer the questions be polite
OJE i just poured the drinks behind the till, or you could be on the drive-through ect..
Good luck

My first shift was on a till, so good luck with that
Although I know someone who started the same time as me (a year ago) and has only learnt tills in the past couple of months. Sometimes our new people either start on till, fries, window (presenting) or drinks (drive thru) for front, and then for kitchen they tend to put new people on dropping on chicken, or sometimes on grill

Re: The McDonalds ThreadHey, don't be nervous! I had an interview last friday, it went really well. They talk to you nicely, and you just answer honestly. I then got an email yesterday afternoon saying I've been invited to a welcome meeting. I wore a suit, took my school report, attendance sheet, etc. Best to be over-dressed and over-prepared than under!(Original post by Wild@Heart)

Re: The McDonalds Thread
I recently had a group interview with 4 other people at mcdonalds, and i got a call 2 days later saying that i had been successful and i have to go in for a second interview on wednesday. What do they do at a second interview? What questions do they ask? What are my chances of getting the job?
