Are you referring to the guy who nominated himself as a good physics rep cos he debates?
Reply 21
yeah.....the guy who everyone groans at when he asks questions!
Name: Charley

NatSci: Physical
Interview date: 9th December (sounds too soon  )

Just thought I'd revive this thread cus it's gonna die soon! NatSci people c'mon start posting here! (maybe even aim to beat the New Students Entry 2004 thread... - nah that thread is kinda cool  being in a world of its own... )

So irisng, pardon my ignorance, but I thought you had to have 2 of Maths, Phys, Chem to study Physical NatSci... How did you circumvent that requirement? As I remember you hadnt taken Chemistry or Physics at A level... Sorry, am just really confused! Btw, what have you guys been reading about and stuff? I am currently reading QED by Feynman, pretty interesting and not too long! I just want to be able to say Ive read 2 books, otherwise ill look lame...

Also have you Trinity applicants got two interviews, or just the one? I have only been notified of a single one, involving two interviewers for an academic interview... Any advances on that?

Lol I'm not applying for Physical NatSci - I've applied for Biological! - I can't apply for Physical anyway, my predicted grades are only AAB and I don't have maths or physics. Simply cus I have intelligence ZERO for maths! *sigh* Lol I do Chemistry  only I got a C at AS :frown: mark off a B :frown: got A in Biology though.... but the crucial science is chem so I'm kinda doomed...... :frown: Those are my only two sciences - my third is Art, not the most well-respected subject at Cambridge  dropped Eng Lit. Hence it'd be a miracle if I get in

Just as well I guess, cus I really can't do maths and that's compulsory first years, and I'm soooo lazy....

And I was stupid enough to list seven books in my SAQ saying I've read them when I've never touched them :frown: serves me right. If I can get through a book every two days from today, then I'll get through it... I'm reading two Dawkins books - Selfish Gene and Blind Watchmaker. Chemistry for Life (popular sci), Stats for Biologists - just to recap my maths.... Microbiology stuff... Birth to Death (ethics books on science)... The Bell Curve, stats book on IQ and IQ scores - cus I wrote an Intelligence essay for Emma and listed this stupid 800-paged book as my source... if I'm quick I think I can squeeze it in in three days.... *sigh*

AND I have two other interviews before Cambridge and I haven't prepared for those yet!!!!! and they're for different courses...!
If I were you I'd make sure you read the book you listed as your source as a priority, since you *will* be discussing your essay and so it's probably likely to come up. Hopefully your essay won't contradict anything the book says..!
Good luck everyone!

Hmmm yeh good point! Yeh maybe I'll finished Selfish Gene first cus I've read quite a bit already anyway - well nearly 100 pages, which isn't much actually - and then I'll start on Bell Curve, maybe alongside the Biochem book... aaaahhhhhhhhhhhh too much to read! Serves me right :frown:

Oh c'mon NatSci people! - this thread can't die! - surely there're more natsci people out there?

Well guess fewer natsci's can be a good thing... less competition

But c'mon guys!

No, I'm not Rahul, even though I am at Trinity. It's quite funny though, as me and a friend from Clare were calling him Mr Trinity before Duffett-Smith

I was "Joe Bloggs from Trinity - actually no I'm not". Trying to be funny and failing utterly. Seriously though, don't judge Trinity by him, we're not really like that!

 meeeeeh!!!!!! - you have no sympathy :frown:
I have a lot of sympathy... just glad I finished the ONE book I listed on my additional statement, and have read two popular books by Feynman now. Might read brief history again and try and understand it this time round! Maybe casually flick over some AS stuff to make sure im sharp on laws and rships in Physics, Chem and Maths etc... Meh. Yeah the C in Chemistry was almost a B, so not sure how much that will hurt you, but from what I hear grades get you in the door and then its a TOTALLY even playing field. I do NOT like that prospect... No way can an interview have more weighting than grades when we spend our lives working for those and one day doing a poxy interview...

Rob (still bitter as hell)

Lol Visesh! - yes I should be reading.......

And Robbie well done on fnishing the book! - I've finished reading the Selfish Gene! - FINALLY!!!!!! - one down, 6 to go  :frown:

I think Willa thought history of science stuff wasn't particularly useful...? Is it worth reading? - when's your interview btw?
