Default Edexcel Further Maths/ Maths modules PANIC

Hi, I have a question about maths and further maths modules that hopefully someone will be able to answer.

We have always been told that with our maths A Level, we can have C1-C4 and then any two applied modules that we like, and put the other applied towards further maths. So I went into these exams thinking that I could put my highest marks (in M2, S1 and M1) towards my further maths, with FP1, FP2 and FP3, and then have C1-4 and S2 and M3 going towards my maths A-Level. We were told not to cash in our grades at the end of AS year so that we could do this.

I have now looked at the official spec for Edexcel where it says that you can only put certain pairs of modules towards the Maths A Level, and these do not include M3. Is this true?

My offer is AAAB with an A in Maths and further Maths, with my A in further maths already marginal with my high applied results. I am totally panicking now because if I'm not allowed to use these then there's nothing I can do

Please help

if you have m3 youd have to have m1 and m2 in normal a level but obviously this is not possible. you can have m1 and s1, m1 and m2, s1 and s2

You cant have M3 for A level maths. The only possible applied module combinations are:

M1 M2
S1 S2
D1 D2
or any combination of S1/M1/D1

The board will automatically give you the lowest possible A grade to maximise your Further Maths grade.

Why do you think the Edexcel specification might not be authoritative?

As you will know, having read the document, you can only add one of these combinations to the four core modules to make up the maths A level: S1 & S2, D1 & D2, M1 & M2, S1 & D1, S1 & M1 or M1 & D1.

Things changed after 2004. My first son was able to use M4 to make up his A level; on the other hand, he had to cram the equivalent of C1-4 into P1, P2 & P3.

If you have taken C1, C2, C3, C4, FP1, FP2, FP3, M1, M2, M3, S1, S2 as your modules, then your possibilities are:
Maths: C1-4, M1, M2 and Further: FP1-3, S1, S2, M3
Maths: C1-4, M1, S1 and Further: FP1-3, M2, M3, S2
Maths: C1-4, S1, S2 and Further: FP1-3, M1, M2, M3.

You can't have something like:
Maths: C1-4, M1, S2 and Further: FP1-3, M2, M3 and S1.
You have to have either an Applied1 and the same Applied2 in your maths
with the rest of the applied modules in the Further maths,

or both Applied1 modules in the single maths,
with with the rest of the applied modules in the Further maths.
You can't have a higher applied module in the single maths A-level than you have in the Further Maths A-level; so you can't put M2 in the single maths and M1 in the Further Maths, for instance.

Why do you think the Edexcel specification might not be authoritative?

As I said, throughout my whole course we have been told we can put whichever applied modules we want towards the maths a level. Generally one tends to believe the people teaching them as they should have experience of what is allowed.

Thanks very much for all the responses, although that's certainly not what I wanted to hear
