Default History AEA (NEXT YEAR)

Hi, just wondering if anyones going to be taking history AEA next year?
I probably will be, depending on AS results.
Anyone suggest any good books to read in preparation (aside from the obvious, ie Carr and Evans, which I havent read yet but am planning to)?

Jenkins' 'Re-thinking History' because it gives a post-modernist approach; I completely disagree with his point of view, but it's definitely worth reading.

'Big Question in History' (ed. Harriet Swaine) is good reading - easy to understand, but gives you a brief overview of the sorts of questions they might ask.

And read around your A level syllabus - AS and A2!

LOL!

you might want to consider that they have cancelled AEA's from this year onwards to make space for the A* award so you can't do the history AEA i believe - still extra reading about a subject you like can never hurt

just checked, my apologies - i know of at least 10 people whom on TSR said they would be cancelled from this year onward

The last AEA examinations will take place in June 2009 with results issued in August 2009. After this time the Advanced Extension Award qualification will be withdrawn.[1] This came after a decision by the Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ), that the new A* grade being offered at A level will overlap with the purpose of the AEA, thus rendering them unnecessary.

good luck in that case OP

Pratice of History by G. R. Elton
What is history? by E. H. Carr

essential readings.

Next year is last year of AEA, make the most out of it! You will be experiencing an historical moment. I really hate the A* idea to replace AEA. absolute joke, absolutely disgraceful. Whoever came up with that idea effectively committed the Sack of Rome 1526 in the intellectual circle.

Quite a feat considering that there's no such event 1527, perchance?

If you are doing Modern History Paul Kennedy's "Rise and Fall of the Great Powers" is a great overview of political and economic history, though somewhat dated.

Blame the tabloids It was those who forced the Government into the corner over "declining standards"

Still, getting an A* will look pretty good too won't it. You can still work out whether you A Level grades would have been A*s or not by whether you got 540+ out of 600 for your final UMS. I did AEA but maybe I think I would have prefered just an A*.

Eek! Why such a bad experience?

I've looked briefly at some past papers and......it doesn't look good.

The paper was just really difficult.. and went on for 3 hours...which wasn't too great. My teacher walked in halfway through and was sniggering to himself, I mouthed "**** you" and stuck my middle finger up
But aslong as you're prepared (which I wasn't) go ahead and take it
