Worked at trose for the past 2 years and am off to Leeds uni in September. At my branch they've let students who used to work at the branch come back to work there during the holidays, while also having a job in the branch in the city of where they go to uni. How do I get onto this student scheme thing!?
    (Original post by Elvendork)
Ask your PM I think that T0MM3H is doing something similar, going away for you uni but being kept on the books so that he can do overtime during the holidays.
Correct, but I'm not going to try and get work at the branch close to uni, so it's a slightly different situation. Plus I haven't spoken to anyone about it yet, so my knowledge on this subject is only as good as yours! :')

At my branch last year I seem to recall them just coming round asking around August time all the people who were 18 if they were going to uni that Autumn. Maybe they're nice enough to try do it for you?! :P

    Hey guys.

Just a quickie. This might sound like a stupid question but anyway,

There's a part time vacancy going at the little Waitrose convenience store in Wimbledon and I was thinking about applying. I was just wondering what the actual job consists of if the job role is 'Supermarket Assistant?' It says 'roles can be discussed in interview', so as of now I think it's pretty non specific.

Would anyone who works at Watirose as a 'supermarket assistant' be able to tell me of their day to day tasks?

I've had previous retail experience, and handled cash/card transactions so I guess that's a little bit of experience.

    Thanks

Hi, I work in a convenience store, and there are no sections, you need to be able and willing to turn your hand to near enough anything, from baking bread to reducing, from tills one second to putting stock out the next.

Wimbledon Hill is a very busy and fast paced store.

question about my cv, my first reference is the headteacher of my school, and I want the second reference to be my p.e. teacher (head of faculty), so what do I go ask him and what do I write on my cv?

    Re: The Waitrose Thread
I have a group interview in the second week of June for a job that was advertised as 'temporary part time' so I assumed that it would just be a summer job. After reading this thread I'm worried that the fact I will be moving away from home, and the Waitrose branch, in September to start my second year of uni will mean I won't be considered. I put on my application that I was at university so I didn't think it would matter too much but obviously it might?

I updated my question answers from last year (some when reading through made me sound like a cocky bastard :/ ) so hopefully I'll do better with applications this year

I've so far applied to the Fulham branch. If I am lucky enough to get an interview, what percentage of those get a job typically?

Waiting to hear back from my one to one interview(well informal tour and talk of waitrose branch) will be a week tomorrow. Should I call and follow up tomorrow if I haven't heard from the by then? Is it bad that I haven't heard from them yet or...? Getting quite nervous/impatient as I really would like a job! Advice anyone?

    Hi all,

Just got a group interview invitation for waitrose and just had a few questions.

How smart is the dress for a group interview? full suit or just smart trousers and shirt (with or without tie?)?

Also, what else should I take? I'm thinking my Portfolio of Achievement (with certificates etc), but anything else?

Thanks in advance, and any other tips for group interviews would be much appreciated!

    Stuart,

Definitely go in a suit (shirt and tie etc) but don't bother with bringing your certificates etc, it isn't really necessary.

Don't forget to bring your passport and national insurance card and good luck!

I've been invited to attend a group interview at the Oadby branch.

I have worked in this branch before for about 3 months(I was even there when the store opened, I was on a temp contract)

I know most of the people working in the branch from my college and from when I worked with them

It literally takes me 10 minutes to walk from my house to the store.

And I know alot about the ins and outs of waitrose.

Will I have a great advantage in the group interview?

If you have a suit, go in a suit. It's always so much easier to make a full suit more casual, then it is to make a trousers and open shirt smarter. If you find that you're way overdressed in comparison to everyone, take your jacket off and just be in a tie. You'll still look smart and presentable, and it'll give you a plus.

The only things you need to take with you are your Passport/driving licence and your NI card I believe. Be a plus to take a pen, always satisfying to be able to hand their pen back because you have your own.

For the interview, be confident and talkative, but don't try to over-do it and look like you're arrogant or trying too hard..

Idk what else I can help you with.. Do your research, research waitrose and research chefs. Pick a chef to research (Not Jamie Oliver or anyone super famous, find a slightly obscure chef, pick one of his meals, and memorise it), they tend to like to ask you a question about your favourite chef or what meal you would cook for someone. Most people in my interview went with Jamie Oliver and Gordon Ramsey, so we looked a little silly.

    Good luck!

Does anyone have access to the unofficial waitrose guide? I have an interview next week and would like to look through it beforehand but I can't get hold of Lucy.

i'd say you have a good chance if you made the right impression on managers, but if you didnt make a great impression they will remember. however 10 mins walk away is always an advantage since they can call on you in adverse weather ect.

dont worry, took nearly three weeks for me to hear back, it depends on how busy the SMP is and such (ours is very busy since shes only in three days a week) but give them a little more time since around this time they tend to do a lot of recruitment, and the weekend has been stupidly busy too (we were very busy right through the week due to the jubilee) so wait till next week before phoning or anything. but good luck

i would say go for smart trousers and a shirt (with tie) but the jacket is unnessarsary,
you will only need your proof to work in the uk (normally passport) however as someone said a pen looks good too.
tips: be a team player in the group tasks, dont dominate, but dont sink into the back ground.
try to be confident, but dont look cocky
    be polite at all times
ensure you are punctual, arrive at the branch 5-10 minutes before the interview to give yourself time to go to the Customer service desk and let them find someone to take you up to the dining room and such.
most of all try to relax

Sorry to reply all i one block
am starting to get a little fed up of all the interview questions, hence why me, lucy ect. tend to not reply for a while.
