Re: The Waitrose ThreadThat's a shame. Doing much overtime this summer?(Original post by such_a_lady)
Fresh. Bread and cakes, to be precise. Hate it. Can't wait to leave.

I really like working on the deli counter! Doing an eleven hour shift goes so quickly as there are so many different things to do. -
Re: The Waitrose Thread
Hi everyone,
just a question, i started working with waitrose on the 16th of June and I am unsure whether or not I will get paid this month as the cut-off date for pay is the 16th and i was employed on the cut-off date, this seems to be doing my head in at the moment.
I'd be really grateful if someone could shed some light

My branch is really bitchy, that's why :/ -
Re: The Waitrose ThreadI'm just going by experience. I joined mid-August after the cut-off date last year and got paid for half a month.(Original post by Tool2)
Thank you so much for the speedy reply!
Could you explain to me how this is so?
When I joined, the group was really bad in that area, but then the culprit left for university.(Original post by such_a_lady)

Re: The Waitrose ThreadIf you look a page back I have added a post of a recent group interview I have had.(Original post by weirdnessandcoffee)
I have a group interview on friday, I'm 16 and looking for a part time job.
What should I expect, how should I act?
You will be in a group with around 9 others and at first you do an ice breaker or team building activities like bingo or we had to get into two groups and build a tower from jelly babies and spagetti. Then we had to answer three questions and do a mini presentation about ourselves, they were what is your favourite meal and why, why do you want to work for waitrose and where do you see yourself in 10 years.
Following that we had to come up with a three course meal for 4 in groups.
Do make sure you research the company fully first,it helps to know how they differ to other supermarkets. Be passionate about food and excellent customer service but most importantly be yourself.
Good luck. -
Re: The Waitrose ThreadThank you! I've done some reaserch and am now constantly revising it!(Original post by Claudette)

Would saying you want to work for waitrose because you feel you can grow with the company too....cliche? -
Re: The Waitrose ThreadNo problem.(Original post by weirdnessandcoffee)

Sounds like you are doing all the right things.
I think when it comes to having an interview for a big company esp one like the JLP which are well renowned for what they offer Partners, most things anyone would say in response to that question would be a cliche IYSWIM?
I said that I felt I would be an asset to the company as I have a passion for good quality products, used to dealing with the public, transferable skills from my former roles as a teaching instructor, waitress, bar assistant, general hotel assistant and call centre operative, know how important excellent customer service is to the company and to that of the customer and a good food knowledge that I would be able to impart. -
Re: The Waitrose ThreadI just think about the shift in chunks. Plus, doing eleven hours you get 45 minutes worth of paid breaks, so it's easy to split it all.(Original post by Tsunami2011)

To be fair, on the counters the jobs are always changing. You set up the counter, serve loads of customers, look for off-sales, clean, tidy and then close down the counter. I think that definitely helps the shift go quickly!
It should be tomorrow.(Original post by IvanGray)
When do you get paid? People at the Trose'.

Re: The Waitrose Thread
I have an interview today, and when I applied online it said the position was temporary. My friend told me everyone is hired on a temporary basis at first and then if they impress they are kept on permanently.
I was wondering would this still apply for the role (given I get the job of course!), because it specifically stated that it would be a 'temporary' job. Thanks

If it specifically stated temp, then it is temporary.(Original post by amyandbeyond)

When I first started I was on a permanent contract, but I was made aware the first 3 months is a probation period, where my contractual hours are subject to change etc.
However, there have been many who have gained a permanent role, from temp, good luck.

Re: The Waitrose ThreadActually you were just lucky with your permanent contract. Generally Waitrose only employ on temporary 3 month contracts and then extend or make permanent depending on how well you do.(Original post by IvanGray)
