Well, each university has its own way of teaching and a different course structure so I don't think the way you get presented the material will be the same, but either way you'll learn everything you need. I can't tell you more because I haven't started my course so everything else would be a guess. But I can share with you something an Aerospace student at Sheffield wrote to me (Hope that he wouldn't mind as it is to help you with your decision ).

"I don't know too much about Bath but I can tell you that Sheffield has a great Engineering department and is a really good university to be at as well. The Aerospace course itself has it's ups and downs but overall I've found it pretty good. The standard of teaching is generally high and I've nearly always found the lecturers approachable and willing to help (apart from one guy who's a complete arse!). The only complaint I would have about the course is that we don't have many modules tailored specifically towards Aerospace and we share a lot of our modules with other branches of engineering. This gets better as you go on though as the modules become more specialised towards your particular area of interest so I wouldn't say it's a deal breaker. However if Bath does have a dedicated Aerospace department of its own then it's probably an advantage, simply because the structure of the course will be more relevant to Aerospace.

If you're on the year in industry course then (at least at Sheffield) you have to find and apply for your own placements. For the BEng students this happens after their 2nd year and for the MEng students this happens after their 3rd year. To remain on the year in industry once you're on the course you have to average above 60% in your second year (which is a 2:1) but just because you have the grades to apply, doesn't necessarily mean you will get a placement, just like real life."

As for studying abroad, I don't think that's an option when you're doing this course (or at least I haven't read that anywhere), but I haven't actually seen it as an option at Sheffield either. I mean that I've only seen a course with a placement and a separate course with a year abroad, but I haven't seen a course that combines both although it would be nice if there is.
I really appreciate the time you have taken for writing this!! (Although I know you didnt write the Sheffield bit...). You will have to tell me how you find the Bath course. And I remember the name of the abroad thing, its called Erasmus, they offer it in every university in Europe im sure. For the placement thing though, must it be in the Uk or could you also apply within the EU?? Are you still waiting for your results to know if you are deffinately in??
    Thanks a lot!

No problem at all, I know how hard it is to make such an important decision If you write to me in a couple of months I'm sure I'll be able to tell you more about the course at Bath. About the placements, I think they're mainly in the UK because the universities have links mostly to firms in the UK. But of course if you manage to find a placement somewhere else I guess noone would try to stop you I'm not waiting for results anymore. Fortunately, I'm definitely in and I even received my accommodation offer today

Wow welldone! You mean you dont know your results but your deffintely in anyway? Im lucky enough to live 10 minutes away from the big airbus wing plant just outside of Chester. (Employs like 5000+ people). I have had some experience there and im sure I would apply there for the 1 year industry if I could. Do you think you will apply for the Filton airbus factory (Near Bristol) ?

I'm not from the UK so I actually have my results It's great you have somewhere close where you can apply. I don't know where I will apply as I don't know the factories in the UK as well as you, but I'd apply anywhere to get a placement.

You should have said you wernt form the UK earlier! Then I wouldnt have asked so many questions haha. Where abouts are you from then?? Its obviously a while away until you apply but you really should consider airbus in Filton which is in Bristol (So not so far from Bath) and airbus in Broughton, Chester which is much bigger (Its amazing!!!). Rent is EXTREMILY cheap in Chester, my parents rent out student properties so I know how much cheaper it has to be compared to Bristol, Sheffield etc. And by the way, what made you choose a uni in the UK then?

I'm from Bulgaria (many people say they haven't heard of it ). Thanks for the advice, I'll definitely apply if it's possible. About choosing a uni in the UK, I wanted to study abroad, somewhere in Europe, where there is a great choice of good universities, and also where English is the official language, so it wasn't difficult at all to set my mind on the UK

Wow, if people say they havent heard of Bulgaria then they must actually be retards (No offence to them). IM half Italian and my Italian cousin did the same as you He went to Manchester uni to study computer science. How did you learn to speak and write English so well? I find people in this country very ignorant because they think 'there is no need to learn another language' because 'everyone else speaks English' etc. I have a good knowledage of Italian and Spanish but not fluent I agree (Not boasting) that the UK probably has the largest amount of decent universities in Europe And if people want to do well then I agree that knowing fluent English is a step forward Plus I think it is a lot more expensive in the USA/Australia for university. Are you ok financially? It is possible to get financial help but Im not sure if it is available to international students. There is one called a bursary or something similar which I will be applying for I dont come from that much of a well off family. My Dad moved from Naples in Italy and has NO qualifications what so ever.

Sorry for the late answer, but I haven't had any time for a couple of days A couple of my friends are going to Manchester, too. I also know someone that is already there studying computer science. Actually, many of my classmates are going to study in the UK. Pretty much everyone in Bulgaria studies English at some point. I started when I was little and that's why I think I'm doing pretty much fine. Also, most of us here try to learn at least 2 other languages aside from Bulgarian (otherwise it might be difficult for us to find a job here). I think Spanish is great, it's nice that you've studied it. It's going to be hard for me financially. Unfortunately, we're not entitled to any financial help. I hope you get your bursary

Yeah thats fine, I guess Im lucky to live in a country with good universities. For most people it is difficult financially seen as they have tripled the fees in the past few years, though you only have to pay it back slowly, if you have a decent job that is. The universities deffinately favour international students who are well off financially as they can of course pay back the debt. The bursary is pretty useless anyway, it takes a lot of effort andI think I may be entitles to something like £750 a year, which to be honest isnt that useful, but I guess it is better than nothing. Good luck on your course and please inform me on how you find it!
