Re: TSR Cyclists Society?Interesting.. its cheaper.. Though what does the Carerra have thats better than the.. ridgeback speed, say?(Original post by EKO)
I reckon the Carerra Subway from Halfrauds is better than any of those you've listed up there, may be worth checking out. Believe it or not, their Carerra's get spot on reviews across many biking sites, including MBR. Here's a review.

Hanoi.. whats your budget? mountain bikes can go from £200 to the thousands..Last edited by SoundDevastation; 27-06-2008 at 00:18. -
Re: TSR Cyclists Society?
a similar budget to me then...
most of the 'big names' eg. Specialized, Trek, Giant, Ridgeback.. do have a few models within this price range. Though whether it is better to get a low-end big name, over a middle-range model from a less respected name, is what im trying to figure out really!
The bike shop i went in today dont sell any (adult) models for less that £250.. but i know that if i buy from them i would be buying quality that would last for years and years with minimum maintenance, and a big name that will always be catered for in terms of parts/upgrades.
Though if you go somewhere like Halfords,.. £250 is somewhere in the middle of there price range. You probably have a wider choice, and there's the option to save money to put aside for parts, and you'd still be buying a machine that wasn't the manufacturers 'bottom model'.
but anyone with more knowledge feel free to correct me if im talking nonsense

Re: TSR Cyclists Society?
When you spend £250ish on a bike I'd say it comes down to mainly what bike has the better spec, as the frames are going to be fairly similar, look out for shimano and bontreger stuff.
When you say top gear do you mean the biggest ring on the front and the biggest on the back?(Original post by m i l o)
My brakes suddenly "adjust" themselves when I'm in the middle of cycling. Also when I'm on the very top gear the gears are so noisy it's unreal. It's a new bike too. Anybody familiar with this? -
Re: TSR Cyclists Society?Yeah, so on my bike it was 21st gear. It just re-adjusts itself on lower gears too though. Do you think it may just be a case of oiling the chain?(Original post by Keith Lemon)

THe guy wasn't even doing anything stupid like jumps on it, he just went over a tree root and the welding came apart -
Re: TSR Cyclists Society?I've had mine for the past 10+ years, never had a single problem with it other than the standard punctures.(Original post by Olyy)

Re: TSR Cyclists Society? So you are in effect on the hardest possible "setting"?(Original post by m i l o)
Yeah, so on my bike it was 21st gear. It just re-adjusts itself on lower gears too though. Do you think it may just be a case of oiling the chain?
If you are it's probably just a matter of adjusting the stops and cable on the rear/front mech, any idea what they are?
