Vidal Sassoon - Model hair cuts - any experiences???

Hi, I've booked in at the Master Academy (the one of Davies St, just off Bond St in Mayfair) for a model haircut. After reading reviews online, I'm now completely panicking that I've booked into a place that only does creative and edgy cuts. I need them to maintain my length and give me a nice summery layered cut. So does anyone have any experiences of trainee haircuts there? Am I in the wrong one? Really, really scared!!!!!!

If youre looking or a classic hair cut. Don't go there.
my friend came out crying after she got her haircut there because she wanted a nice simple layered haircut but came out looking like a topshop grunger, and she wasnt the only one in tears with their hair.

The students there aren't trainees as such, they are hairdressers with several years of experience and want to learn how to do 'creative' haircuts.

They do funk hair styles with disconnected layered cuts and they seem to like dying people's hair in purples and greens. Its a matter of whether youre open minded enough for these haircuts.

I came out with a japanese mullet second time i went there. It took two months to grow out and it looks really nice now.
I dont think i'll go there again there. youre better off ringing and asking for an appointment at the academy on the road behide them, who do advance classical haircuts.

Ah thank you so much!!!! Will definitely be ringing first thing!!! Good job I checked!

Edit: Just wanted to check so I get the right one... I'm currently booked into the one on Davies St (called the Master Academy) is that the advanced academy or the training school? Google is failing me. Apparently the one on Grosvenor St is the advanced one? I'm now confused :frown:

The one on Grosvenor street is the advance academy who do creative hair cuts.
I know theres another two vidal sasson academies in that area. one of them looks like a tiny shop on the outside, they specialise in colouring and do trainee haircuts (sorry dont know the road. and theres a more advance one that does normal haircuts.

heres reviews on them.

anyways, having a haircut at the academy is a hit and miss. You're paying like £5, so don't expect too much!

I've been twice to the Grosvenor Street one - and both times had a perfect cut:smile: .

Hmmm I'm actually tempted to just try. I'm pretty clear on what I want and would probably stop them before anything drastic was complicated. And I've been to the Toni & Guy academy and the trainees in salons before and it's been perfect. Just wanted something other than the same Toni and Guy style I've had for a year. I guess if I tell them not to dare getting rid of the length, and it needs to be possible to tie it all back they can't do too much crazy stuff *fingers crossed*.

Sorry to ask this, but do you have a 'normal' hairstyle, ie. a more classic cut rather than a funky style? and how much input did you have? And can they show you pictures first of what they're planning?

I guess it's a funkier version of a classic cut? Well I have to say I wouldn't certainly be happy about having something crazy on my head! I was quite open - didn't have any idea what I wanted and they suggested cutting my hair short and I agreed so ended up with short hair at the back and a bit longer in the front (it may sound a bit crazy but it's definitely not - it's quite classy and feminine and definitely doesn't turn heads or anything)- and even longer on the right side (it was a sort of fringe). When I went there the next time, I told told I didn't want to go much shorter so ended up pretty much with a longer version of what I had earlier.
I'm not sure how they'd react if you bring a picture - but I guess they'll be fine with it!

I found Vidal to be the better one. With Vidal I had it completely free, they didn't tell me what colour they were dying my hair though, but it was amazing finished.

T&G gave me a consultation where they wanted to give me a asymetric cut; one side longer than the other...

Obvious who I chose, Vidal will listen to what you say.
Either one get there early, people queue for hours to get these spots.
DAVIES mews = average one.
grosvenor st = master academy = edgy cuts.
they are both off bond street.

If you seriously don't want them to do something, just tell them. They are not gonna chop your hair off or something if you don't want it. Just saw this is what i want and i don't want this and you'll be fine :]

i've been going to them for 3 years ish now and i have no complaints at all. [[except the timing, it takes a good few hours]]

Sometimes they don't give you much choice over which you end up in though.

Instead of going through the academies, a number of Toni and Guy salons have trainees too. If you go to them in salon, it costs about the same as in the salon but you get much better service and are supervised by a senior hairdresser who is much more focused on you. At Vidal for example, it was one guy supervising about 8 or 9 trainees. Also in salon the seats are more comfortable, it's relaxing, you get a really good head massage and they blow dry to perfection. Off the top of my head, High St Ken, Regents Street, Covent Garden and Angel all have trainees.

They do try and persuade you to try something new, they are learning too and after all you have signed up to be a hair model... whilst i'm always pretty much open, there have been people next to me who are really adament that they want a particular style, and as long as you make it crystal clear that you want this and you don't want that, they can't go against your word. Part of their training i'm guessing is client satisfaction aswell.
I had my haircut today and was really worried about what the result would be. I had a pretty clear idea of what I wanted, so I explained to the teacher, she gave me a few suggestions, some I liked and agreed to, others I didn't so I said no thankyou to those , I seriously got the most amazing haircut I;ve ever had. Yes, it may have taken 3 hours, but who can complain for a fiver!! The woman next to me was SO specific, literally she was like, I want the bit on the left this length, the bit behind that a bit shorter, then on the otherside longer altogether, with a tail (whatever that meant!) and they did it all, giving suggestions, but she also got exactly what she wanted.

I went to the creative academy, I got a quite average pixie cut, its really short but not completely crazy, I guess some people would call my length crazy, but anyway, what I'm trying to say is, as long as the haircut you're looking for is different to what you have, they'll do it. It doesnt matter if the haircut you want is boring and same old same old, as long as its different, they'll like it .

Another woman I saw had just average shoulder length hair, and they gave her a classic bob, looked gorgeous  and a classic bob really isnt that drastic

but anyway, hope this helps

I also got asked to be a demo model for them YAY aha, so I'm going to go back there and get haircuts for FREE
I got my haircut there a week ago. I was just walking along Oxford Street and this hot blonde girl asked if I wanted a haircut, for free:eek:
Anyway I obviously said :yep: and my hair looked really good afterwards.
I also got asked to model for them and I got the hairdressers number:wink:. All in all it was an OK day!

I has my hair done at the creative advanced academy and I have to say it was the best cut I've ever had. It was sharp and new and I loved it. But the layers did take about 6 cuts to grow out. So you would have to go back again to get it cut again. I've not been back but have another appointment booked for next week as I want another fresh stylish cut.

And I did see a women at the salon get the classic bob and her hair looked amazing and really looked fantastic. Id recommend it if you want a new look and don't mind them chopping into your hair. But they will give you a style tailored to suit you so you can't go too wrong and hair grows! Be bold and go for it!
Interested in applying for my niece who has the most amazing hair, long and very very full in texture for a model hair cut, more over to become
a hair model.
