Currently I'm on the pill (microgynon 30) but I want to come off the pill and go on another kind of contraception; the reason for this is that I'm quite forgetful and disorganised which means I sometimes forget my pill, and I'm lazy so I find it a bit of a hassle to take it everyday at the same time (I'm not looking for people to be like 'uh it's easy', I know I'm a lazy idiot).
I really dislike condoms so I was thinking along the lines of the implant or the injection; however my mum reckons this might affect my fertility in the long run; are her worries unfounded? Are any of your on the implant/injection or any other kind of contraception that you'd reccomend?
I've never been on the pill, but I want to get the implant, as I'm in a long term relationship and it does last 3 years. Just google all the methods, pros and cons and read about people that have the implant/get injections. Personally what freaked me out about the implant was the process of taking it out, because it's an actual surgical procedure.
From what I read, the implant is the same as the pill in the way it keeps you from getting pregnant, so it shouldn't affect fertility.
I'm not a doctor, but I'm pretty sure that the implant doesn't affect fertility. I think it works on the same sort of principle as the progesterone only pill.
If you are worried about implants or injections, there are also coils (IUDs, IUCDs are other names for the same things), although it is somewhat invasive to have it fitted.
However, Microgyon 30 is a pretty strong pill - when I was on it a doctor told me you could miss one and still be fine. Taking it at around the same time helps, but I believe it's only really essential if you're on a mini-pill, not a combined one like Microgynon.
You have a local anaesthetic before they insert it and have to wear an enormous bandage on your arm for 24 hours, which results in everyone asking you what you have done to your arm, but it isn't painful.
I can't take the conventional pill because I suffer from migraines so I had the implant fitted. It was excellent, but I was on my period more often than off which is why I had it removed (and I broke up with my boyfriend). I wish it had stopped my periods completely... *sighs wistfully*

So did going on the implant lengthen your periods or something? Does it often do that?
I used to be on Microgynon, now I get the Depo-Provera injection. It's much better because it's just once every 3 months, though apparently you should only get it for about a year then take a break.
I think I'm going to get the implant because it lasts for 3 years though.

It didn't lengthen my periods, I just bled constantly. It affects everyone differently, some people may have lighter periods, some people's periods may stop altogether. I would recommend you try it out, just to see how it works for you.
