Re: Do you think that it is wrong to joke about rape?
Humour and jokes are a subjective thing, simple as. But while the following is true:
1. A joke doesn't harm anybody.
2. SOME people find them funny.
While those are true - (and they pretty much always are) - I don't see how you can justify making them stop telling them. Sure you personally don't find it funny but people don't have the right to dictate what jokes should exist.
There would be a snowball effect. One person finds something offensive and people can't joke about it, then soon you can't joke about religion, or race, or gender at all, or smoking ... or anything.
We support total freedom of speech for a reason, and the same reasons apply to the world of comedy. Personally I know jokes about Ian Huntley, Fritzel, wife beating, incest etc etc - there's a lot of sick jokes out there and some people just like them. All I can suggest is that you take it for what it is, harmless words, and try not to get too worked up over it. -

The "I have a friend who...." reason for not finding something funny is a complete non-starter with me. If you take everyone into account, it would rule out pretty much all jokes because all jokes are at SOMEONE's expense.
As far as Im concerned NOTHING is off limits to humour. And with that said, i'll finish with this;
Whats the difference between the late Pope John Paul II, and Madeline McCann? Pope John Paul died a virgin.
while risky i found this post witty and clever
made me giggle at how risque it is

I think it can be inappropriate mainly when you don't know your group of friends well enough. You don't know if someone has actually been raped or not. It's stupid and inappropriate anyways, but less of a big deal when you KNOW everyone and know that the person saying it isn't ACTUALLY gonna do anything.
