i'm starting A2 german and my cousin advised me to get this book. it's german, so i imagine i'd have to get it from a german site. but i've never heard of pons. has anyone heard of this company/book and are they/is it good?

It's one of the major German dictionary brands (it's an imprint of Klett). Slightly less well-known than Langenscheidt (which is one of several BI imprints; Duden and Brockhaus are among the others you may have heard of), but also offers good solid reference books and dictionaries.
I would be more tempted to buy some of the Duden books because I used some of them last year (for my A2) and they were good, with a copy of Hammars Grammar you will be more than sorted for A2.
