Re: Dartmouth or UPenn?...help needed quick
i live in new york...
ok so you kinda have to know what you want! they're SO different from each other!
Dartmouth:
-18.95% acceptance
-total about $40,000/yr
-4,000ish undergrads-->relatively small school
-close interaction with proessors, few TAs
-4-term system (fall, winter, spring, summer), with 1 term as "off-term" for an internship or job
-very pretty campus in the middle of NOWHERE
-very outdoorsy, hiking, etc.
-fraternities are popular, lots of drinking
-lots of sports/good school spirit
-supposed to have good food
-REALLY cold weather
UPenn:
-21% acceptance
-total about $40,000/yr
-10,000ish undergrads-->medium/slightly large
-if you are going into international business you can apply to wharton, one of THE most prestigious business schools ever--super difficult to get in but you're setttt if you do (we're talking...trump when here...)
-actually, Penn offeres a program that would be perfect for you...its called the "Huntsman Program in International Studies and Business" so you study at both the Arts and Sciences college and Wharton, and study abroad is required
-the school is known for a supposed "work hard/party hard" ethic....i guess this is similar to dartmouth
-frats also big part of social sciene, also large amt of drinking
-HOWEVER because you are smack in the middle of a huge city--Philly--as you become an upperclassman, more people start going out to bars/clubs downtown or off-campus parties
-lots of sports, relatively good school spirit
-from my guidebook "most freshmen live in dorms around the Quad, which is meant to resemble the Oxford-Cambridge system of living. Each dorm has about 400 people and has a dining hall close by. upperclassman can live in the hi-rises which are apartment style living options with in-suite bathrooms and kitchenettes."
-you're in philly with tons of stuff to do
-relatively cold weather, but in August, Septemeber, and May the weather can get really warm
So basically you have to ask yourself 2 questions:
1) are you serious about international business (if you can get into Huntsman then that would be perfect)
and
2) rural or urban? outdoorsy or not? this is the biggest difference b/w Dartmouth and Penn, no doubt about that. how would you want to spend 4 years?
