Default Best bank account for international students

Hello All
I'm an international student. I want to know which bank provides best rates & offers for international students. I came across these
Natwest account

Barclays

Are there any other banks which offer good plans for international students.

If it matters, Im going to University of Salford, Greater Manchester.

best one is hsbc because they will open an account without proof of address. from what ive seen, they are the only ones that will accept no proof of uk address. however, they will ask for proof of address from your home, so if you have a driving licence, utility bill, etc from your country, you might want to bring that. i have also experienced a situation where abbey did not ask me for proof of address but maybe that was an isolated situation because abbey like the other banks have asked me tons of questions, including if i have a job and how i am getting paid. i was quite surprised to see how many questions they asked me at the banks. i think they asked me more questions at the bank than when i entered the country at the airport. the funny thing is though. it is probably easier to get a credit card or other kinds of credit. very ironic. when you give them money, it is hard, but when you take money from them, its easy. go figure.
with that said, barclays is the worst of them all. they examined my passport to death. even called up the head office to ask for security features of the passport such as holograms, including how long the passports from my country were valid for. it was horrible. if you want to be treated like a criminal, then by all means, go to barclays. in the end, after they grilled me for half an hour, they finally rejected my application for a basic account.

Why would a bank reject anyone for a normal account? Isn't money money?

Oh cool. I have HSBC & Barclays in my home country.

I'm curious abt Natwest's plan, One bundled feature:

33% off most UK train tickets

See the UK for less when you travel by train. Your 16-25 railcard cuts most rail fares in the UK by a third, and normally costs £20.

Can anyone comment on this feature. I will travel alot so i thought this one would come in handy. What about the interest rates in UK??

I don't think it matters in which town you live, it would still cost the same
They charge £6 at HSBC for the international studens account, but not a basic account which is free

Opening in a diff town, whenever i have to meet the bank officials means i need to travel to the town right? (But I'm not sure how often(if at all I have to) meet them in a yr)

Is there any minimum initial deposit amount??

Any idea about Lloyd TSB bank and its service??

I'd recommend HSBC's Passport account for application ease. However, do bear in mind that their customer service falls wayyy below expected levels, even at Premier Banking levels. Do double-check all paperwork, especially photocopies of all documents.. If they missed out anything, even if it was their fault, you'll have to make your way down to a branch to get your application redone. Waste of time.
