Default science vs applied science

my sister brought home a letter from school asking for our parents consent for her to do the GCSE applied science course. not sure if thats instead of the normal double award course or if they are doing that as an extra. it made me think that there is something fishy and my parents aren't too keen to put her on it. she is looking for a career in dietitics, possibly pharmacy or computer science/engineering.

what is the applied science course like? can you actually do both or is the school messing us around by being so vague? is it still possible to do science A-levels if you do GCSE in applied science?

thanks

Applied science is if you definitely don't want to do anything to do with science in college like nothing at all. It is practical based, but won't give the student the necessary knowledge to do anything to do with science.

Our school everyone did normal double award as only 3 people chose applied.

If they are unsure then i suggest choosing the normal option.

definitely do the real double science.

With the applied it would be really hard to get onto A level courses in science, and even if you could, you'd be behind everyone else.

I considered taking it, but I'm so glad I didn't becuase I'd have been stuck for A level choices if I did (I done Chem and Physics).

Don't let her do the applied science if she wants a career in science.

Make her take the normal science award. Applied science is usually done by students that don't want to do the science subjects after GCSE's.

DO NOT do the applied science.

If she took the this course, she wouldn't be able to do A-level sciences.

And anyway, applied science is for people who have got C/D on their core science grade.

A Level Applied Science won't get her a career in dietetics, pharmacy or computer science/engineering.

I know, i was merely mentioning that it could be taken further. Realistically, the applied award is normally offered to students with a weaker aptitude for science at GCSE, not sure if this is the case here? It would be best to do the double award.
