Average deposit for a 2nd year house?

Our deposit was one months rent split between four which equaled to £275 each.
it was £1200 for the 5 of us so about £240 each
and the first month rent

woah! this is loads! i paid £75 deposit! but then we also had to give her cheques for the summer retainer which was half rent for 10 week (£250) and then three cheques for each terms rent which was about £700. but there all post dated so she has our money but she cant pay them in yet... so i guess thats a sort of deposit..... sort of! 
Mine was 1 months rent, so about £360 I think.
