Hear hear, they really messed up my nails :frown:

Get them taken off at the nail place?!

Yeh, they mess up your nails a bit but mine aren't great anyway, I dont really mind.

Yeah I should get them taken off but it costs £15 and that's money that I just don't have :frown:

I just wanted to advise you all not to get acrylic nails if you're thinking about doing so. My nails are normally rather nice and I foolishly decided to get acrylic nails because my nails were too short. Now, two weeks later, I'm attempting to take them off and my nails are in a horrific state :frown:

Woah easy up girl you shouldn't take them off yourself! That's how your nails are ruined (well they don't do much good anyway but it makes it worse), you need to go back to the place you had them done and get them soaked off

Edit: £15 to have them soaked off? they should do it for free.

what you do is..let your real nails grow and keep on filing the fake nail down ..until the fake nail reaches near the top of your nail then rip it off, that way only the top part of your nail looks funny then you use a filer or whatever to make all your real nails smooth

Yeah i agree to be honest... i was going to a wedding and decided to wear them but the glue made them so painful and to do ANYTHING was a nightmare so i took them off before going out and i still have half the glue on my fingers over a week later! Its easier if you put a little glue in the middle of the nail and get a toothpick or something which i got with the nails to get them off as its much easier.

Never again though...

I called them up and they said £15, so I don't know what to do :frown: I know it sounds stupid, but I feel like crying. My nails used to be really nice and now they're awful. I think I'm going to put pictures up of how awful my nails are now to encourage people not to have them done!

Aww, just make sure you use lots of strength polish stuff, that helped mine! But as I said, mine weren't very nice before, they were really weak! :p: Plus I didnt want to pay the $10 to get mine off (lol) so i sort of weakened them then pulled them off. It didnt hurt and my nails were alright! But yeh the glue does harm them.
You can remove acrylics yourself no problem. It's easier if you use pure acetone rather than bog standard nailpolish remover. I get my acetone from Sally's. Give 'em a good old soak in the acetone for at least half an hour and see how they're doing, if they're not coming off, keep soaking until they do.
Lots and lots of hand cream and cuticle oil and you should be okay.
And yes, acrylic nails damage your natural nails. A lesson learned indeed.

It's not that bad, your nails will recover just take care of them in the meantime

As Ilora-Danon said try and get yourself to Sally's and do it yourself, saves £15 which is a complete rip off in my opinion. Just don't rip them off.

Lots of women have them, it's just that you usually notice them on certain types (pornstars as you call them) as they're usually very long, and very french manicured. But, some women have acrylics that look very subtle and you wouldn't know the difference.

i get acrylic nails done every year for my hols....yes they do hurt when you do anything but they look so good!
This year im trying to grow my own nails to a good standard so i can have a manicure and french polish instead but my job doesnt really give me the chance to grow them they alwayyyys break!
I soak mine off with acetone it does take FOREVER tho! I cut the tips of the acrylic so theres just the part under your natural nail left and then keep taking my hands out of the acetone and scraping the top layers of acrylic off! Youve gotta love them when they are on but i do agree that your nails are ruined after...ah well!
I was in the same sitution as you 9 months ago :headfire:...

I paid £50 for a set of nail extensions in the House of Fraser, Nails Inc bar and four days later one name came off. I rang them up and they said that it was £20 to have them taken off. Instead of choosing that option my Mom took me up our local chemist and I bought a bottle of acetone nail polish remover, got home poured half of it in a little bowl and soaked my hands in the bowl. They shrunk and eventually came off within 20 minutes.

I've never had a pair of nail extensions on since:woo: My nails have grown to the way I like them know, an If I ever feel like having a french manicure again I would have it done on my real nails.

Hope this helped!

(In bold) - Why didn't you just ask for a replacement tip?
