Well Im starting AS-Levels from September 2008 and then want to go to University and do a Degree in Economics or Business Finance or a Joint degree which will be Mathematics & Economics or Mathematics & Business.
My AS-Levels are going to be, Economics,Geography,Maths & Politics, My question is that I think many Universities want A-Level Further Mathematics to do the Joint degree. But I am afraid off doing Furhter Maths!, but I think some Universities on the other hand only want A-Level Mathematics.
So which University is the best to goto to do a Joint degree in Maths & Economics or Maths & Business without Further Mathematics?

In all honesty wherever you go F. Maths will be highly recommended, even if they don't say so. Do you want to harm your chances of getting to a good uni by being 'afraid' of F. Maths?

I don't know if I can do it, I don't want to under-achieve and fail!

If you put enough effort in, it shouldn't be too much of an issue. S'all about how hard you work. It is (imo) better to take a bit of a chance now to open up more doors.
Il see what I get in GCSE Maths on results day and decide from there but some universities say you don't need Further Maths, Normal A-level Maths is Ok, like LSE.
If you're scared of further maths you shouldn't do a Maths&Economics degree. A lot of economics students on BSc programmes have further maths at the top unis, never mind on maths&economics.
I think you should drop politics (this will not impress a single soul judging your application) and replace it with further maths.
a lot of things you do at uni - maths & econ - involve a lot of further maths, so i was told by a maths & econ graduate at the LSE
Well ive heard its for people Above-avarage, Even though im Predicted "A" in GCSE Maths and already have a grade "B" in GCSE Maths at intermidiate level!
I think you can only take one AS-level along-side Further Maths and Maths because off the work-load, so I would probberly take Economics but if I can take another 2AS-leves I would take Geography & Economics!

Don't worry about it - all it is is maths fast tracked (to be honest it separates the men from the boys {or the women from the girls - as there are great female mathematicians }). The maths is at a deeper level, compared to doing just A level maths, but doing it does show you whether you would like to do it at uni or not.
I'm in the same position as you, going to sixth form this year, waiting for my GCSES and i would like to study maths and econ at uni.
The only difference between us right now, is that i got an A* in maths - which you will receive in august - and i'm doing further maths in sixth form

Have you got your A* in GCSE Mathematics?
Well you can't do Further Maths on its own with another 3AS-Levels, You have to do it with normal AS-Level Maths aswell because off the way it combines and how they support each other and then you take another 1 or 2 AS-Levels along-side it.

yep i got it in year 10.
well...i'm doing maths, further maths, physics and economics at AS level so....
I did Maths & Further alongside five other AS-levels - being restricted to just one other subject is ridiculous.
But yes, if you feel you're not good enough for Further Maths, why do you think you'll enjoy a Maths degree - where they'll go through the Further Maths stuff in a term rather than a year? Even if you do fail, just be thankful that you found out that maths isn't for you, and that you failed for free at A-level rather than paying Ł3,000 to fail your first year at uni.
I wouldn't have thought any joint honours degrees would actually specify Further Maths is required. I had to get an A in Maths, but needing an A in FM would've put a lot of pressure on, especially as Maths isn't the whole degree.
Personally, I would drop a subject in the 2nd year(probably lowest grade) and then take AS Further Maths, as you have to love Maths to do it at Uni..!
