Default Help in getting fit!

At current I do no exercise whatsoever and in all my life have never done any regular exercise.

As you can imagine, at the moment I'm really unfit; I get puffed out going up 3 flights of stairs, I can't ride less then 2 miles on my BMX without taking a short break and 5 minutes of a light jog kills me.

I pretty much want to change all that. I want to increase my fitness, ideally through running/riding my bike, to a moderate level. Maybe set of goal of entering a long distance race? I'm also a scout and in the holz there's often alot of walking arranged. I always opt out because the guys walk far too fast for me (and have longer legs!) but I'd like to go in the future, and surprise them all with my fast walking ability , so, that's another goal

Any help on how to go about this?

Cheers!

If you're unmotivated (which sounds kinda likely) then I'd say maybe find a class you can go to - I found that the embarassment of having to stop half way through was enough motivation to keep me going. If you've got any friends who are similarly not very fit then maybe find yourself a training partner?

If there's a gym with a student partner then similarly muscly people everywhere make good motivation

Try to find something that you can track your progress in to monitor your fitness and act as encouragement e.g. if your family have jobs while you're home for the vac then set yourself a 5 min challenge for how many times can you run up and down the flight of stairs at home or if you're feeling brave then do a bleep test.

Don't underestimate the effect that low impact stuff can do (e.g. instead of getting up and going for a jog, get up and go for a fast walk)

start off small and build it up little by little im sure if u keep it up in a month you'll be fitter.

e.g. jog for one minute one day then 2 the next etc (maybe a bit more than 1 min a day but you get the general gist)

do small and regular. a few times a day.

do a 3 minute jog in the morning, lunch and evening and work your way upwards. In a month you should be able to do 5-7 minutes.
