Default Environmental Science

Is A-Level Environmental Science a "black-listed"/"non-preferred" subject? Or is it considered a "respected", valued science subject?

I think it really depends on what degree you're looking to do; if you're looking to do an Envi Sci degree then I'm sure it would be very valued. If however you wanted a 'safer' more 'respected' option, go for Chem/Phys/Bio. In my opinion, it's not all tht 'sciencey', especially compred to subjects like Chem; it's considerably easier, as well.

I'm hoping to do undergrad Economics... What then? Environmental management or Chem/Bio/Phy?

Depends what you would enjoy more, what you would get the best grade in, and where you intend on going to university.

I study A Level Environmental Science, I have done 4 of the 6 units and teach myself. I got a B and a C on the first 2 Units, I also done OCR Bio and got a U. I would say if you are into Geographical side of Science then Environmental Science is better - Although there is some overlap with A Level Biology and minor overlap with Chem and Phy. Its easy and its respected as its a SCIENCE! Also it has a very low A-C pass rate at As and A2 like 47% at AS.

Anyway - The choice is yours personally I would go for it. Good Luck

Do you reckon an Environmental Science/Studies A Level would be useful as a second science for ecology and similar subjects (with biology as the first science)? I have no idea whether universities count it as a proper science.

Sorry, but I haven't been able to find an answer on this

All you need to do is look at Universities that offer Ecology, Botany, Environmental Biology and subjects on those lines. The few I have looked at typically say Biology as a main requirement with either Environmental Science or Chemistry as a second science. I think most Universities that don't look down on Env Sci too much view it more as a bridge between Humanities and Science rather than a "proper" science.

But anyways, your best just contacting some Universities that offer the Ecology subject you want to do and ask the department that teaches that degree for their clarification on the matter. But your right that some Universities don't view it (Env Sci) that highly, I think even less so since the new A-Level system came into place this year and it became Environmental Studies.

Thanks I'll contact the universities I'm interested in and ask them if they consider it a proper science subject.
