Default How can you revise for the abstract reasoning?

Hi all,

How are you supposed to revise for abstract reasoning in the UKCAT? I have done some practise tests on it, yet i keep getting low scores below the average. I just cant make sense of it with the ******ed shapes

I didn't do the actual UKCAT examination, however from the looks of the practice UKCAT paper, the best option is to practice. Once you've exhausted all the UKCAT preparation materials you can find, use any "improve your IQ" books. It seems as if they have quite a few similar questions to the Abstract Reasoning section. But of course questions tailored specifically for UKCAT would be a lot more useful.

I think it being near impossible is the point. You have A'levels to test you ability to be coached through education.

I don't get what your saying? You mean for this we can't really train ourselves, so it is bound to be really hard?

Why not book a MENSA IQ test -- you don't have to have a high IQ -- and buy some of the aforementioned "improve your IQ" books.

I'm personally not of the standpoint that one cannot improve one's performance on a test -- however it is devised.

Dr Kawashima's Brain Training! Even Patrick Stewart's playing it Plus, on a serious note, it does help sharpen your mind for things like abstract reasoning. Might be worth a few games to warm that brain up

all you need is the SP.... acronym, and then some practice from the UKCAT books.

Wow...you guys are taking the UKCAT way seriously. I just did the practice questions online...it's an aptitude test and doesnt really require revision Although, I guess some work wouldn't hurt.

Why not do some hard maths questions the morning of the exam to get your brain in the mood so to speak.

I hate the idea that people can study for these things. Kinda defeats the purpose.

I'm not going to revise too much, just do as much practise papers which are available and maybe just do some of the morning of the exam. I'll be happy with an average in the UKCAT.

If you really can't get abstract reasoning, maybe you'd be better off perfecting the other parts of the test?

Define:aptitude - inherent ability

How can you revise to better your inherent ability?

You can however practice to become familiar with the stuff but that's different to revision.

The test looks for people who are naturally logical. Yeh you can revise, and you can work out patterns that are likely to crop up, but it is damn near impossible to get every one right. Last year that whole section was scrapped because that section was so dubious. Just use your common sense when looking at the shapes and i'm sure you will be absolutely fine.

For the UKCAT part it was good; it was well researched and since there was an evident dearth of preparatory material for the test, it made it more useful.

The BMAT part on the other hand was the worst BMAT help I ever got.
