That's good to know XD I have no problem against people supporting the death penalty (even though i'm against it, each to their own and all that) but i have a problem with people who think ALL murders should be punished with death.
Completely agree with you. I think the battered-wife-who-suddenly-flips scenario shouldn't even result in prison time, but maybe that's just me. However, the fine people I listed above (the list of people executed in the US this year) deserved to die...

    Derrick Sonnier? Yep.
    Kent Jermaine Jackson? Hell yeah.
Mark Dean Schwab? I'd have injected the potassium chloride myself. Without anaesthetic.

(Note that their victims were all either young children, vulnerable elderly people, or women. Those types of murderers have a special place in Hell reserved for them. The crimes where the victim(s) is (are) particularly vulnerable really tick me off.)

I find reading about the electric chair stuff so interesting. Is that wrong.
    You cruel, cruel person! :p:

But, if you search google images for this guy...

In 1999, another Florida inmate, Allen Lee Davis, had a nosebleed in the chair, which caused a large pool of blood to form on his shirt. If you fancy putting yourself off food for a while, there are photos of the aftermath of his execution available on the internet.
...I can guarantee you'll avoid food for a while. Don't hold me responsible.

Edit: I'll tell you what is cruel. Iran publicly hanged 30 people this morning who were convicted of drugs smuggling, arms smuggling, kidnapping and armed robbery. Now that is cruel. The Americans are lightweights in applying the death penalty compared to the Arab nations. CNN article here.

Oooh i searched for them, I didint find them that bad at all. And im usually quite wincy. Maybe I should become a state electrician for prisons in America where the person on death row can choose between Leathal Injection and Old Sparky. The whole ALternating and Direct current argument between Edison and Tesla is fascinating.

Electrocution of William Kemmler, the first to die by old sparky
Kemmler was electrocuted for 17 seconds. Witnesses reported the smell of burning flesh and several nauseated spectators fled the room. The power was turned off and Kemmler was declared dead.

However, witnesses noticed Kemmler was still breathing. The attending physicians, Dr. Edward Charles Spitzka and Dr. Charles F. Macdonald, came forward to examine Kemmler. After confirming Kemmler was still alive, Spitzka reportedly called out, "Have the current turned on again, quick — no delay."

In the second attempt, Kemmler was shocked with 2,000 volts. Blood vessels under the skin ruptured and bled and his body caught fire.

In all, the entire execution took approximately eight minutes. Westinghouse later commented: "They would have done better using an axe." A reporter who witnessed it also said it was "an awful spectacle, far worse than hanging."
This **** is just so interesting.

Umm. You're limited to: Alabama, Florida, South Carolina, Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Illinois.

Better get practicing how to insert IV needles if you want to be an executioner. It's a bit of an odd career choice though; don't put it on your UCAS application.

I loved Steve Punt's (I think) point (more joke) about Saudi Arabia's legal system; it's the only country where the punishment for drink driving is identical to that of driving (for a woman) - death.

What a lovely place - I might just visit.

You could go on, couldn't you, this is worse than that, that is not as bad as this, forever dissecting, comparing, differentiating.

The only real fact to remember is that the law is a consensus, and that for a society to function, members must accept and support the law of that land.

It is very fashionable to question the law, to call it an ass, even to have a slight contempt for its percieved lack of subtlety but if a society is yours, then accept it's laws and find the courage to defend them.

After all, the execution of an individual by process of law isn't really so terrible when compared to what Society accepts being done to innocents of other societies: bomb homes and say they are harbouring really really bad terrorists, bomb citiescentres from six miles up on market day and declare that it was done with 'precision', attack medieval societies with space-age weapons because they are a threat !!! What about over-consumption (gluttony)? How can you even think about drug runners and law-breakers when 50k infants die daily from a lack of clean water and insufficient nourishment?

Get real. Don't read the papers, don't listen to the radio and don't watch the news. Why? Well, get on the web and read the fringe news. Then you'll know why.

All criminal convictions should include 10 lashes in the town square, and that's everything from shop lifting all the way up to murder!

I wonder if these kinds of murders (without a motive) are worth it. I mean, 12+ years (in general) backpay for a minute's excitement. Dumb, plain dumb.

I'm not sure that's the kinda thought process that goes through a murderer's head :p:
