Default Useful map for Oxford students

Hi all
I'm new to the forum, hope you don't mind me coming on here to pick your brains!
I'm putting together a map of Oxford for students (for Freshers Week) which will show all the colleges, plus other locations that are useful for students new to the city.

Can you help with your top must know about spots?

Thanks for your help!

Airlie.

Aren't there already two separate maps available on the Oxford website...one with colleges and the other with academic buildings?

I live here, but don't go to the uni...

Places/advice you need are:

How to get to the kassam (no. 5 bus)
The Red Lion!
Anything down little clarendon street
Bus station/train station and how to get from them to other places
West of Cornwall pasty co.
Shakeaways
Krispy Kremes/The Castle.

EDIT:

The Turf and Blackwells also.

Thanks everyone, yep I should have been more specific about the map!
It's going to form part of a A5 leaflet, so will be quite basic, with all the colleges, possibly some of the museums (thanks for the link sugar_cane), but then really focus on atttractions and useful spots for newbies to the city.
Are there specific places related to arrival / registration that are key too? I notice the admissions information centre on the map sugar_cane posted.
Also things like book shops and libraries are great ideas - thanks Prudy.

Keep them coming!

You might want show people recommended routes from the station if they are coming by train or coach (ie internationals). It would be a good idea to know the most pedestrian friendly roads around Oxford....... for example, trying to Cross St. Giles is not hte best idea, its like a mini motorway through the north half of Oxford, and there are only two crossing I think (one by the Ashmolean) and the other is actually on Woodstock.

Oh yea, little Clarendon's needs to be highlighted. I never knew so much existed on this tiny medieval alley......

Obviously G&Ds (all three if them); an arrow pointing in the general direction of the Carling Academy, if you can't get Cowley on the map; all the stupid little social science libraries; the Covered Market (incl. Moo Moos!); the University Parks.

St Giles is piss easy to cross... nowhere in central Oxford is pedestrian unfriendly.

Anyway, the following would probably all be pretty useful; Union, Exam Schools, Boathouse

Presumably you mean the Isis boathouses (ie, where you watch Eights) and not the ones up by Wolfson/Cherwell boat houses.

I heard rumours that there is a Ben's Cookies in Oxford . . . Not necessarily essential in terms of Freshers, but if I make my offer I'll be pretty keen to locate it upon my arrival.

ben's cookies is in the covered market.
i think the map is a really good idea, we suggested something similar for our freshers week but never really got anything sorted, so if you do finish compiling one i don't suppose you could email it to me? (i'll PM you the address if it's ok)
other important locations:
alternative tuckshop, corner of holywell street and mansfield road
covered market between high street and market street
ice rink on oxpens road
pizza express and the castle complex
location of the main clubs:
filth in westgate
OFS on george street
Park End and Imperial on park end street
Bridge and Bar Risa on hythe bridge street (i think)

good call, handy things that need to be on the map
i don't know how many starbucks there are in oxford, but the one i know is on cornmarket street
primark is the first shop on the left in the westgate centre (enterring from queen street)
i'm not sure there is a mango (but there might be, i haven't hit all the shops)
every college tends to swear by its local kebab van, which college are you going to?
brasenose's local is mehdi's which is parked right outside brasenose on the high street, other ones include hassan's on broad street, posh nosh outside christchurch (would be wouldn't it) on aldates, there's another one outside queens on the high street i think, and many more that i can't remember
mcdonalds and KFC are both on cornmarket street.
River Island is in the clarendon centre (along with zara and lots of other nice shops)
Clubs i said in the last post, the best pubs are the kings arms (centre of oxford, parks road on the corner of holywell street)
turf tavern (an indescribeable location between new college lane and holywell street), in fact there are loads of pubs around, i don't think you'll ever need to go searching out for one. other popular ones include the mitre, the red lion (formerly the goose), the bear, the eagle and child
cocktail bars are another favourite, baby love bar on king edward street (i think), duke of cambridge (best in happy hour) on little clarendon street.
i haven't been to too many cocktail bars but there are several, others will know better

There is a River Island!! I am so happy right now!

Collegewise I'm off to Corpus (hopefully) - so would that be posh nosh for the closest one? How is it proximitywise to everything else? (especially KFC )
