ok so i did some porgramming last year at uni and i want to buy this so i can practice a bit more. how do i go about this? amazon wasn't much cop on this one.

Buy what, you haven't provided a link.
Wait you want to BUY JAVA?
If you mean the programming language itself all you need to do is download a free IDE (e.g. Netbeans/Eclips/JCreater) and start coding...

If you've already done some programming, you don't really need to buy a paperback book. Look online for the latest free edition of Bruce Eckel's Thinking in Java, it's quite good in my opinion.

Sun are in dire straights at the moment. I'm sure if you put in a good offer...

But seriously, the JDK and a far few good IDEs are totally free and available for download.

A good well rounded reference book for Java would be "Java: How to Program" by Dietel.
