Well i just finished my first year at Imperial doing Chemistry and I did nothing bar assessed work, didn't turn up to any tutorials or lectures in 2nd and 3rd term and came out with a solid 2:1 so yeah, you can have fun and do reasonably well. I was confident I could learn it all at the end so I went out as much as I could and I had an absolutely cracking time!

Good for you! Will you be continuing your streak this year?

you should know better by now. there is no distinction between intelligence at imperial. do you really believe that intelligent people are more likely to get 1sts? examinations at imeprial do not have questions that require intelligent thought. its just how hard you work that matters. intelligent people will know that its rarely worth it to waste 4 years of your life just to get a first over a 2.1. the engineering courses are some of the hardest. and yes, they are much harder than anything with bio in it. but fair enough to the bio people, they get to enjoy themselves and get a decent degree, whereas engineering...

That is open for discussion.

I'm defintely going to work this year - not pushing my luck again!
Wow... Read almost all the posts on here, and they were REALLY offputting. I was going to apply for physics, and I know that some people do enjoy themselves but I don't think the place would suit me... Meh I have friends who got in this year (med and materials) who are really nice people though.
Good for you.

Face it wherever you go to university - if you want to get a good degree from a reputable university you will have to work VERY hard. If you want to make friends you will have to socialise.

Whether you live at home or not doesn't really matter about making friends IMO it's about the effort you put into getting to know people.

& sarubobo28 : Good luck finding anywhere that fulfils your er exact criteria.
