Hmm strange, what you said sounds just like a pickup technique I hear my friends use all the time. Perhaps they've heard it before? My friends called it mystery method or something silly like that. lol in fact one of my friends just walked by and said it is exactly the same as what they read about. Perhaps your pick up techniques aren't going to work :-p

Isn't pickup just a secret society of club goers or something?
British women are rubbish i lived in Canada and just chatted to girls all the time... i come back here and was made to feel like a freak.

English women are bottom fo the pile.

We're not all stuck up, but honestly its down to most Britsh girls in general considering all outsiders of friends and family etc strangers, weirdos and pervs.
I dunno, some places are worse than others, and the twatty ones are usally the chavvy or very well off ones in my experience. Not all of us are that bad, you just have to look.

I reckon this is true. Just from observing other threads on this board, this seems pretty true.

that time of the month-collectively (maybe they're in a club)

I must admit; I lol-ed...

Were the girls you walked up to wearing fake-Burberry and/or white tracksuits, fake tan and an over-the-top amount of make up?

I was in the Trafford centre in Manchester. And when i was in America I had no problem talking about this type of stuff with girls. I find that girls here are a lot more insecure for sure but since i'm going to get flamed i will say no more.

One group of girls, and you feel qualified to make a sweeping assumption about all British women?

What he did was annoying anyway. I hate people like that.

I think you mean reserved, which isn't the same as stuck up. I think its just that we don't talk to people we don't know, especially not about personal stuff. Natural British culture I'm afraid.

lol from what I understand of it, pickup is just trying to hit on girls repeatidly and then when you succeed, claiming that you have a special "secret". Strange how they recomend that guys don't drink and hit on girls, ie. lets hit on drunk girls. lol All my friends know all about it, and when they get hit on using lines from "teh internet", they usually give the guy a good telling off! Mainly because of how mysoginistic and sex obsessed the pickup community is!
American girls just have no qualms about anything, and no inhibitions. They'll have an argument about anything just randomly in the street. Get some dignity, why don't they?

Er. Um. I'm not quite sure what to say.

I, er, don't necessarily think that it's the best idea to approach a group of women, announce that you've got a "two part question" and then splatter them with a long and incomprehensible story.

I don't necessarily think that girls in the US would be overly keen on your two part questions, either.

 :yep:

I would say that in general Brits are pretty reserved and don't like being approached by strangers unless there's an obvious reason (like you want to know the time or something)... I know that personally I dislike being approached and dragged into conversation by those I don't know, especially if they start trying to tell me their life story. They probably thought you were taking the piss or something.
Maybe British girls have higher standards.
Maybe they've heard that opener before and weren't impressed.

Americans are generally more social.

But it's not so much that the girls are stuck up, they probably thought you were hitting on them, because generally people aren't "nice".
If a guy came up to me and started asking relationship advice, I'd a be a bit defensive. It's just suspiscious nature, I'm certainly not stuck up (as far as I'm aware)

They didn't have to be so harsh as to offend you, but you don't need to offend us Brits in general either.

No they were actually great fun! I went to LA and the conversations were just great (and i got a cpl of phone numbers to boot too  which would never happen here )! They seem to value ambition and confidence which the girls here don't. Like the guy who was talking about Canada being more open too (then being treated like a freak here). It seems as though i could only talk to them if i was super hot or something - they were average looking but they just seemed to be image obssessed from the way they were talking.

It seems like that's all you're after; no wonder that girls are crossing the road to get away from you...
It doesn't make them stuck up, they are strangers, and you acted, in my opinion, a bit odd. It was a bit of a weird question too. I would probably answer, but think it was a bit bizzare.

FFS you ******. Since when did socialising become an undesirable trait? I like to have a good time and all but I would never consider just hitting on randomers in the street, I do actually like to spend time with them first! And no, this isn't the first time it happened. worst was when i asked a group of young chav girls for the time and all i got was 'time to **** off'.

Stop being so close minded and smell the coffee, this country has a serious problem and it isn't coincidential that most other countries regard us as stuck up our own arses. But since you're so close minded, i don't expect you to realise. Why is it perfectly acceptable to ask simple things abroad and not here, why?
