Im going into year 11 and i still have no idea of what career i would like to do. Teachers are always telling me that by now i should know what i want to do, i have done re-search but still have no clue. I dont even know what area of work i would like to do and its scary that in a few months i will be having to choose subject for college but not knowing what to do is just making my life hell. Is anyone else having this problem? If you knew what you wanted to do how did you make that choice? All Replys are appreciated
I have always had an interest in the Army. I joined Army Cadets for a laugh and ended up staying. Am currently training for the TA and looking to join the regular army.
Go out and try stuff (like Cadets). If you like it as a hobby then who knows.
I knew what I wanted to do in year 10, and now, it changed a bit but I still want to study languages, even if I just thought of more doors that were open to me with the degree I chose. To be honest it sounds like I chose a bit randomly, I just picked what I was the best at and looked at jobs I could do with it, and some were particularly interesting imo.
There are some tests than can help you on the Internet (UCAS was offering a good one, pretty accurate imo), if it exists, have a look at websites giving infos about jobs (I mean we have it in France, I don't know if it exists in English but I'm sure it does, lolol), talk about that with your friends, parents, teachers asking them what do they think you could do later, etc.
I want to be a diplomat and work in international relations. I decided that when I finished Year 11.
It's all about life experiences. You try different things, see what you like more/less. I was always fond of travelling and I'm involved in lots of international relations stuff. I wanted to be a doctor at first, but then I realised I loved this more and that's what I'm pursuing!

take subjects you enjoy and are good at, this way you will end up with a career you enjoy and are good at. i took subjects i enjoyed, because these lead you to a level courses you enjoy and a degree you enjoy and then a job you enjoy
I've changed my mind since i was like 6, the usual vet, nurse etc but i've known for like a few years now that i've wanted to go in Forensic Science and probably the police after uni.

Your teachers are being rather harsh, then. Not that many of the people around me really had any idea about what they wanted to do when I was in Year 11... and even most of those who "knew" ended up changing their minds later on.
It took me four years of work experience to make my mind up.. and even now, I'm still not sure I won't change my mind again at some point. However, I've picked a degree that won't tie me down to a particular career, so I shouldn't be in too much trouble if I decide to do something else, so long as I don't revert to my medical ambitions!
Seriously - don't let your teachers make you feel bad for not knowing what you want to do right now. I'd be willing to bet that most of them didn't know they'd end up teaching when they were your age. Take your time - there's nothing wrong with taking a gap year (or four, as I did) in order to be sure. Just try to get as much work experience as you can, and try not to put pressure on yourself to decide in a hurry - the likelihood is that you'll regret rash decisions, anyway. You have plenty of time to think about it - you're only 15 or so!
This is the UCAS test. I think it offers you degree subjects though, not college ones. But you could use it as an indicator of what college subjects to pick. Say, if it suggests medical courses then you might want to look at taking sciencey subjects. Good luck x
So with college how do i know what subjects to choose?
As others have said - go for things you enjoy... but if you really have no idea which direction you're heading in (which is perfectly normal, as I said above ) then I'd suggest you (a) pick a range of subjects - i.e. don't limit yourself to all arts subjects/all sciences and (b) try to stick to "traditional" A-levels, as these will generally keep more doors open for you, in terms of your degree.
So I'd say maybe look at subjects such as Maths, English Literature, History, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Geography, Spanish, French, German and Further Maths. To a slightly lesser extent, some other subjects such as Psychology, Sociology, Economics, English Language and Philosophy are also generally regarded as fairly traditional, and may be worth considering too. That's not to say you should avoid all other subjects - just that perhaps it's best to pick two or three good, traditional subjects before you look at the others. That's the advice I wish someone had given me when I picked my A-level subjects, anyway.

Aah! I didn't. And I still don't! Any suggestions?
I have no idea what career I want to pursue, I just know that I'm not bad at languages so I figure I'll give them a shot. My brother came out of university not knowing what he wanted to do and then managed to find a job in sales which he's had for a few years now. There's absolutely no pressure for you to decide now.
With regards to A Level choices, choose subjects you enjoy/are good at. Most people lean more towards arts or sciences, and some find themselves interested in both. If you're sciency do Biology, Chemistry, Maths and something like History/English for some variety; if you're arty try English, History, a language and Maths...?
I only made up my mind about a career plan at uni. I chose linguistics for uni because the course sounded good and interesting and I thought I'd enjoy it- that's about it
I didn't know then, I don't know now and I'm 19. Most people don't find out til they're in their 30s and I've always seen people who know what they want to do as being slightly close minded and stubborn. Also, not knowing what you want is meant to be a sign of intelligence
