The deadline for being released before Results was yesterday.
So you now need to wait until thursday.

Release can take up to 2 weeks.
So you do need to be sure.

If you're asking to be released once you've gone firm with your insurance place there's no way it should take two weeks. You can't expect it to be done there and then but the uni should be able to do it the same day.

If you change your mind about your firm or insurance
If you no longer wish to go to your firm and/or insurance but you met the offer (or they're accepting you with lower grades) then you'll have to phone the universities concerned and beg them to release you. They'll probably want reasons, and they might not do it straight away. It could take up to 2 weeks for it to be processed, which is a long time in Clearing. So do this asap so you don't miss out on the best places. Ideally, if you knew that this applied to you before results day then you will already have done it

Yes I read it Paulwhy, but I don't think it's terribly helpful advice because releases aren't complex. From the University's point of view a release takes a couple of minutes, and the technology is such that it should become effective the same day the university does it. If a university holds out on you for a fortnight I think that's not fair play; I understand they get narky sometimes when people ask to be released but not doing it for two weeks is just insane. Uni staff know that time is of the essence in Clearing and in my opinion it's very unprofessional of them to hold a student up.

As we we saying in the other thread uni has a complicated decisoon to make:

Every uni is going to be busy. And sorting out the paperwork of an applicant who has just dumped them will not be a priority for them. I don't think anyone is saying it is normal for it to take 2 weeks for your clearing passport to come through. But it may take a while.

So if a uni turns up in clearing that you prefer to your insurance there is no guarantee that you will be a position quickly to commit. And hence you could lose out to another student who has no active offers.
