wow why have I never seen this thread before?

after wearing my hair in single braids or weaves non-stop for about 5 years, I finally took it all out last week and I'm learning to love my crazy curls again lol.

where do you ladies in London buy your hair products? I normally go Harlesden or Finsbury Park but reading through this thread it sounds like Brixton is cheaper?
    Harlesden, NW10 Stand up!
Yeah my aunty has her hair relaxed and goes to Jeanettes in Harlesden

I go to Brixton or Peckham but mainly down the Walworth Road/East St market as its near my house.

I'm a south london girl, you won't see me north of the river much lol.

Yes. There are about 4 different hair care shops I can think of. Some of them are owned by the same people but they pretty much have everything that peckham has.

Out of curiosity, are the shops asian/indian owned?
In Harlesden this is the case and I think its quite sad tbh.

Yes they are, that is the case in most of the black hair shops in London. It is a shame. But what is to stop black people stepping up and opening up hair shops? If asian people have had good enough business sense to see a gap in the market and go for it then so be it.

The one black owned shop I know in Southampton charges so much that is is cheaper for me to go back to London and buy it. They charge £6.99 for a relaxer that costs £2.50 in London.

London and Birmingham are always far cheaper for hair products - Gloucester is a rip off as well for the hair stuff, ie £6.99 for IC Fantasia Hair Polish/Serum

I wish I lived in LDN or Bham . .

I know, i have some of the same concerns.

But in their defence, I am out in Jamaica at the moment and there are a lot of hardworking good black men at uni (i'm working in the university hospital) trying to make a good life for themselves. Granted it is predominantly the richer jamaicans but they do not subscribe to people's typical opinions.

So something happens when people are educated in the UK...

But we're drifting off the subject. Black hair products are expensive out here and i'm surprised about that. I thought they would at least be slightly cheaper than the UK.

Yea I noticed that when I was out there last year. I bought the IC Polisher and working that back to GBP, it was £8.99 . . . - it's in fact a tad cheaper up here!!! (in some places)

I know - I just find it extremely frustrating and annoyin too that products which are in fact dirt cheap in the States cost an arm and a leg here and in JA.

I have been searching the internet for some products, and the one's I want im finding but they are coming from the states with like £15 P&P, which is ridiculous. There is also the ORS Replenishing PAK that comes in a bottle now which I really want as its better than the packet - that in the States is like £5, for the massive bottle, some teef up here wants £10, including P&P - why people soo damn teef? . . CHU!

*Soz my lil rant on hair products there lol :p: *

I'm in Kingston doing a placement in the university hospital.

I like Jamaica. I've never been before despite having family from here, so its been a trip i've wanting to make for a long time.

There is a lot of beautiful things about this country, i'm staying up in the mountains and the view is breathtaking. Most of the people i've met are lovely, although they all go out of their way to tell me to be careful out here which is a shame. When you get locals telling you that Jamaica is too dangerous and that the population is killing itself you know things need to change.

I haven't done much touristy stuff because i've been at the hospital but this is my last week and then i'm going around the island for 10 days with a friend. We wanted to go up to the Northeast but hurricane gustav caused a lot of damage and its cut off the bridge to get there so we'll be checking out ochie and mo'bay probably.

Is your hair relaxed? . .
I attempted to relax my hair today, with Organic Root Stimulator olive oil relaxer kit (coarse), but I didn't have enough so its not totally relaxed, but hey I only paid a little and my hair now feels softer, and a little thinner (Think I'm going to have to buy 3 boxes next time.)
I was wondering what the best products are, I quite like my hair wavy to be honest, but would like it to be less frizzy.

I'm proud of my hair, Its part of my heritage, but I would like to have the confidence to wear it down more! And part of that is feeling that its in good condition, i just cant seem to get enough moisure to it ever!
I stopped buying products with aqua in and am going for oil based products now, but recommmendations would be great.

Im no hair expert, but apparently water encourages the hair to grow! So hair products that have water in as the first ingrediant is a good sign! Hair products that have petrolatum, mineral oil and placenta are a    .

I use to slap Dark and Lovely on my hair all the time, BUT after visiting a website/forum called 'Black Hair Media', it really has opened my eyes to hair care and etc. I gave away a lot of my old so called hair oils to my family and threw out the rest which have no use to anyone or are just loaded with crap and I have now gone for the ORS range. I have also started wrapping my hair at night, oiling my ends day and night with olive oil (yes the one you buy from the supermarket) and moisturising.

A website where I have spotted hair care products for a reasonable place is: roots and sculpture. The only problem I have with that website is they don't list the ingrediants of what is in the product, but im sure abit of googling won't do no harm.

Hope that is kinda helpful, im no expert - just trying to offload my newly found knowledge . . .lol :p:
