Default Chemistry

So, with advise off this site and other people I have decided to do a BSc in Chemistry and then take on Forensic Science MSc instead of doing Forensic Science straight after my A-Levels.

I want to know where I should do Chemistry and is there a specific Chemistry course that is recommended. And also, I want to know where I should look in to doing Forensic Science MSc.

Thank you.

Go for the best chemistry course you can get onto somewhere you would be happy to study - this would stand you in best stead for whatever you want to do afterwards (which it isn't actually worth worrying about for a couple of years - often you wont actually fancy doing it then, which is why it's good to do as you appear to be starting and be as generalist as possible)

That's quite alright.

The lack of reply elsewhere clearly either means I'm absolutely correct or nobody else cares

Lol.
Do you think if its a good idea to go for "University of Leicester - Chemistry with Forensic Science
3 year full-time Degree" ?
And then do MSc in Forensic Science after that. Or should I stick to pure Chem as a BSc?

I would personally advocate doing pure chemistry - It's something which is hard to justify when you believe you know what you want to do (and I was similar before going to university) but you learn so much when you're at university that your perspective and desires change. It would be gutting to finish a forensic orientated degree and not want to work in that field, whereas if you finished a chemistry degree you could then specialise in the area of your choice - whatever that may be (pure chemistry is also a subject with good prospects in almost any field - you may fancy a complete split and head for accountancy or something similar)

Have a looks at their FAQs here http://www.forensic.gov.uk/forensic_...reer/c_faq.htm

The basic theme seems to be that you don't need any forensic science BSc's or masters to apply - these forensic science courses are, after all, a new phenomenon and the quality of them is pretty variable I'd have thought.

My teacher told me ( at GCSE) that if one wanted to go into the forensic science field, they should get a degree to be considered as the top applicant for the jobs.

Assisant Forensic Scientist is different from Forensic Scientist. To be a forensic scientist, you need to have Alevels and BSc of 2:2 and above.

I agree with people have already said here, much preferable to get a straight chemistry degree first then specialise (if need be) with an MSc in forensics (which is 90% analytical chemistry and I like most chemists find it incredibly dull).

lol at all the replies which advice you to do straight chem - your OP was saying you'd decided that.

You need to be more specific in your actual question - Oxford is the best chemistry course... but what are your grades?
