Laptop or Desktop

Starting a Computing for Business Applications course at Uni of Manchester in Sept and I'm wondering whether I should get a laptop or a desktop - would it be useful to get a laptop so I can take it to labs and back to my room and carry on work and also back home (only 30 mins away and will be home most weekends so may want to do some work then) Obviously the alternative is the better spec if I got a desktop.
there was a recent thread about this...........

it depends how good specs you need for your course to be honest.
Well I'll be doing Computing (Software Engg.) and going for a laptop, mainly because I would like to bring it home with me.

If I feel the need for a desktop, I might buy it later (may be in second year).

Thanks for that  The only difference between this and that thread is that was for general students - this is specifically asking if it would be useful for a computing course to have the laptop. The one I'm looking at is this :

I don't really feel like I need a laptop. There probably will be a way to work from home and in labs anyway. I transfer my work between the uni computers and my own desktop over the internet. It's easier than carrying a laptop around.

I heard there was some new dell with like 19 hours batterly life or something. Might be worth a look at.
