I'm certain I had special consideration given that I didn't sit one exam at all and got an A in it (I had glandular fever which was at its worst point at the time, and done other exams from home). There's no trace on the results that I didn't sit it, though - it appears the same as the others.
In other words, I don't think you can know - I think if special consideration was visible, Universities would be taking off the 2% or whatever and treating borderline passes as the grade below, so it's probably good that it isn't.
