Default Oxford Colleges?

Have just spent the day looking round Oxford colleges and ended up whittling it down to two - Lady Margaret Hall and Worcester. I want to read French and German and wondered what anyone's opinion on these colleges are, or any others that are good at Modern Languages?

I stayed at Worcester College for two nights on the Oxford open day. I stayed in one of the new blocks round the back (where most undergrads stay AFAIK), and it was horrible! In my block there were 8 rooms sharing one bathroom (toilet+bath), one shower and one segregated toilet... and the state of the rooms was rubbish two. This is looking at it from an accomodation point of view, though, and it might not be one of your priorities.

You were probably put in 1st year accomodation. Virtually all 1st years get put in ugly Modernist concrete blocks, regardless of what college they go to. It gets much, much better though after that. Promise!

Lol! I'm trying to think of where that is... in any case, lots of new (as in, newer than wherever you stayed!) shiny accomodation has been built and lots of first years will be living there. You would have been shoved in the horrible accomodation because there's a six-week conference thing going on and we've got lots of Americans in over the summer, so they get the nice rooms.

So I wouldn't worry too much about the accomodation!

Hmm... Worcester v. LMH. Tough call. Both have beautiful grounds and ducks. Worcester has cheap food, great drama and music societies, sports fields on site plus a mini gym, travel grants (for academic and non-academic travel)... and friendly linguists! If any of that helps!

The only place I can think of that fits that bill is the Fishbowl - was it a couple of buildings in a U-shape about 3 or 4 stories tall? Anywho, that's been redone and now should be very nice indeedy.

But yeah, LMH is miles away from EVERYWHERE. in oxford terms that is, which means an extra 10 min walk to most places. It is quite close to Uni Parks though. But then Worcester has big grounds... Swings and roundabouts.

I hope someone takes that literally.
