The total electrical supply in each study-bedroom is only 1900 watts (1.9 kilowatts). This means that, for example, if you and your neighbour both have a kettle and hairdryer switched on at the same time, you could blow fuses and cut off power to you and your neighbours.

Haha, in Nottingham uni, you can only use one plug at a time!

I don't understand what's so extraordinary.

The chances of this happening are slim, though, and I've never heard of it happening to anyone aroound.
Just don't use a hairdryer:biggrin:

Computers typically use 65 to 250 watts (for laptops its about 15-45), which is nothing compared to a hair-dryer (1400 watts usually) or kettle (400-1200+). Basically, it's a non-issue so don't worry about it.

The hair dryers I've looked at are mainly close to 2000 watts :eek:
